I didn’t need to use it. I could kill him with my fists or even with my knife. I grabbed it from the sheath, seeing the little specks of blood, and it shone in the light. I walked forward, and Goran smiled. He was still as slimy as ever. Greasy, fat, and also had a big old beard. He looked terrible, that’s for sure. He held the knife up, and then he challenged me.

“I’m glad that you brought a knife with you, Aaron. Would’ve been a shame if you didn’t,” he said.

I laughed. “You really thought that I’d forget you. As if.”

I grabbed my knife and held it out. We circled each other, and I saw the fire in his eyes.

This was all a game to him. He saw this as nothing more than that. He swiped at me, getting the side of my shirt and just barely grazing the skin. I hissed in pain.

“What’s the matter there, Aaron? Don’t like it when you’re attacked like that?” he teased.

“Shut…the fuck up!” I said.

I lunged for him, missing the first two reaches. The third one got his hand, and he screamed out.

“You fucker! I’ll make you pay for that,” he bellowed.

He came for me, pushing me down. His large, expansive body practically crushed me against him. He dug the knife into different areas. I moved my head from side to side as he attempted to stab a vital location.

I smirked. “What’s the matter? Forget how to kill someone in all your years there, Goran?”

He grunted and then pulled back. “You shut up! You’re nothing more than a piece of shit. I should kill you right then, right there.”

I kicked him in the guts, and he fell off me, landing directly on the floor. I taunted him with my hands.

“Come, I want to see you try,” I told him.

He got up, anger apparent on his face. He then came for me again. I dodged out of the way, but then, it touched my forearm.

I hissed at the sudden contact. “Shit!”

I fell back, and he then moved towards my stomach. He nearly touched the area, but then, at the last second, I grabbed his hands, holding them tightly against me. I kicked him down, pushing right on the small of his back.

A roar of pain exuded from his lips.

This was it. I had to kill him now. I knew that it was a cheap shot, that’s for sure. I didn’t care, though. I wanted nothing more than to do this and end things.

“Die, you fuck!”

Without another thought, I stabbed him directly in the back, going right through there to the heart. The man screamed in pain; a cry of agony flooded through the room. The other guys watched as he choked out blood.

I pulled him to the middle, keeping him on his back. As I looked into his eyes, he tried to get up but fell.

“Face it. You lost there. Now, give me the key,” I said.

He laughed. He got up again, and I watched with horror as he almost got up. But then, just in the nick of town, he fell back down, spilling more blood from his lips.

“You…son of a bitch….”

Without another word, his eyes closed, and he fell to the ground, dead before my very eyes. I didn’t say anything momentarily but just looked forward at the sight.

The sound of the running water pulled me out of my reverie. I raced over to where McKenzie was, grabbing the key from his pocket. When I got over to her, I pulled it out, looking for the lock behind her. But at this point, the water was already covering her torso. I realized it was super cold when I felt it against my hands.

“Jesus Christ,” I said to myself. I should’ve done something sooner to save her. I pulled the contents out and then managed to get her out of there. When I settled her on the ground, she shivered. I pulled her close to me, holding her tightly.

I was both angry, but also relieved. She was…safe. She was happy here, and that was what I liked. I wanted nothing more than to protect her with my life and to just…keep her safe and sound in my arms.

I touched her body, and she cried out.
