“…other places allow free partnerships of Alphas and Omegas…”

No. She’s not listening.

Other countries are lawless, full of chaos and torture.

She bites her lip so hard she tastes blood.

Abel continues, his voice calm and low, his argument persuasive.

She thinks she hears chatter on the floors below, but she could be wrong.

Besides, all of her attention is glued to the Alpha in front of her when he speaks again.

“I have an Omega with me,” he says. That causes her head to snap up, and she sees his masked face displayed on all the screens. She watches in horror, her eyes wide in disbelief as he continues.

“She has chosen to stay with me willingly. In the past weeks, she has attempted to research the Alpha and Omega connection as well, only to be blocked by Lincoln City’s firewalls.”

Her mouth falls open. She stays glued in her chair, ice cold shock running up her spine.

“Just recently, she was let go of her job, most likely due to her asking too many questions.”

What?!

“She has joined our cause.”

No, she fuckinghasn’t.

She trembles with anger and betrayal as he concludes his speech. It’s something along the lines ofdo the right thing, we ask for Alphas to be treated as equal citizens, not military pawns, but it’s all a blur as she glares daggers at him.

He ends the broadcast, yanks his mask down, and exhales a shaky breath. He was more nervous than he let on, it seems.

That doesn’t stop her from grabbing the nearest object she can find and flinging it at him with all her might.

He catches the stapler easily, so she picks up a mug full of pens and tosses it at his head. It misses and shatters against one of the screens.

“You bastard,” she hisses, angrier than she’s ever been with him. She steps closer, ready to swing at him, but he simply catches her wrist in his hand. She continues to struggle against him, but he sighs in annoyance, holding her easily.

“Hazel.Stop.”

“You don’tspeakfor me,” she hisses. “Ever.I haven’t joined your cause! You might as well have told the world we slept together!”

She distantly hears the banging again, but she’s too focused on her rage to acknowledge it. His mouth pulls into a frown and his icy eyes narrow.

“Do you still think I’m a monster?” he challenges, grabbing her other wrist and holding them together. “Do you still think I’m the grotesque creature they showed in your textbooks? Have I snapped your neck, like they promised you I would?”

When she doesn’t reply, he nods. “Then you’ve joined our cause,” he says quietly. “Whether you want to admit it or not.”

His logic doesn’t quell her fury. “You betrayed my trust,” she snaps. “You went through my computer!”

He starts to retort, but she cuts him off. “And it’s not your business why I was fired! You have no idea what I went through!”

“And you want your children to go through that?” he snarls. “What if one of your students grows up to present as an Alpha, Hazel? Then what?”

Tears fill her eyes.

Connor.

“What would you do then?” he continues, pressing closer to her. She cranes her neck up to look at him, her vision obscured by tears. “Is that the life you want for them? Do you want this cycle to continue?”
