They shot Abel.

Alpha no no no!

A Beta has his gun trained at Abel’s head, ready to end his life. The one with the phone out stands near him, his device trained on Abel.

Not like this.

“WAIT!” She finally finds her voice and shoves against the arms holding her. She screams as loud as she can, thrashing and demanding everyone’s attention.

“WAIT! Listen to me!”

If they kill him, if she witnesses this…

She won’t come back from it.

She’ll make good on her threat to jump from the building.

Remarkably, she grabs everyone’s attention. She locks eyes with the Beta who has his gun pointed at Abel.

“Don’t shoot him,” she breathes. “If you do, you’ll just prove his point.”

She keeps the man’s attention, imploring him to listen. “Please. He’ll gain more sympathizers if you kill him like this.”

She’s never been so thankful for her Omega looks. She bats her lashes and pouts her lip with a whisperedplease.

Everyone in the room freezes. If Abel knows what she’s doing, he doesn’t let on.

“If you kill him like this, they’ll treat him as a martyr.”Talk, just keep talking, keep their attention.“It would be better if he bled out on his own. Leave him here to die.”

She glances at the man with the phone. “Please.”

She’s fairly certain she’s never begged so many times in her life, but it has the effect she wants. Inwardly cringing, she plays the part of a damsel in distress, looking between the Betas as if they’re her saviors.

Maybe they’ll listen to her.

They can’t kill Abel. She may be furious at him, but she knows deep down their story isn’t done yet.

She holds her breath.

Remarkably, the Betaslistento her.

The one with his gun trained on Abel lowers it. “She’s right,” he mutters. “Bleed out here, asshole.” He delivers a swift kick to Abel’s side, but Abel barely grunts from the assault, instead keeping his eyes locked on Hazel’s until they drag her away from him.

“Breathe,” Abel says quietly. “Breathe, Hazel.”

No.He doesn’t have the right to comfort her after everything that just happened.

They just shot him, for fuck’s sake.

Alpha is hurt!

“Don’t talk to her!” the man at her side snarls to him. “Just wait until the cops come, asshole. They’ll finish you off.”

No, no, no!

But her voice is dry and closed off. She used whatever energy she had left to negotiate for Abel’s life, and now they’re dragging her away from him.

She doesn’t want to be with these men, but they grip her arms and haul her away from the control room and away from the Alpha.
