Needles,California
“Remember what I told you at the start of this journey?” Cruz said to Eden.
“You told me many things. Which one in particular?”
“That you choose where this ride goes.”
“Yes, I do remember that. Are you saying that I need to choose something now?” she asked.
“Finn and Boots are going back to Phoenix…my old club. The rest are continuing on to Needles, then Death Valley and LA. We can go in either direction,” he said.
“I’ll go anywhere,” she said. “Needles, Phoenix…I haven’t been to Needles.”
“OK, it’s three hours from here and you can say you have then.”
“I would love that,” she said.
He called out to the others, “It’s Needles for us.”
Kayleigh said, “Cool,” and gave Eden a thumbs-up.
Cruz was already thinking about the next crossroad where she would get to decide again. He'd thought there was one trip she needed to make above all else.
She wasn't aware of that yet, and he was unsure how she would take it when she did find out. He believed that the last stop on this journey of rediscovery for her would be the most important part of the trip. The part where she would finally be set free from the one thing that was holding her back.

Lake Havasu,Arizona
They didn’t go into Needles, turning off before then to travel to Lake Havasu where Razor had booked accommodations for the night. They parked their bikes near the shoreline, and they all took off their boots and walked on the sand, dipping their feet into the water.
“Ah, that feels so good,” Eden said.
“Makes you just want to strip off and dive in,” Poppy said.
If only.“Yeah, that would be so nice,” Eden said. Cruz changed the subject.
The accommodations were the best they’d had on the whole trip. 5 star, with soft beds.
“Ahhhh…wake me up next week,” Eden said.
“You could stay here?”
“For a while,” she said.
“You’re finding the ride a little tough?” he asked.
“No, not all all,” she said. “I love it. I could do it forever, but this…” She spread out her arms and legs and made like a starfish as she wriggled around on the bed, “is so, so comfortable.”
He was admiring her when she sat up suddenly and said, “Hey!”
