She starts laughing. “I’m just messing with you, but seriously, the look on your face,” Beth says before plopping down on the bed.

“Jesus, Beth.” I give her a little push.

“I swear, the two of you are like Laverne and Shirley.” She laughs even harder when I look at Georgie, giving her mywhat the fuck?face.

“Am I Laverne in this scenario?” Georgie asks.

“Obviously not. I’m Laverne,” I say.

“But I have blonde hair,” Georgie protests.

“Shirley was the short one,” I counter.

“How drunk are the two of you?” Beth asks, clutching one of the pillows to her chest.

“Did Beth make a joke?” Georgie asks.

“Holy shit, pigs do fly!” I say loudly and flop down on the bed next to Beth.

“I’m not that terrible, am I?” Beth turns to me, tucking her hand under her cheek.

My sister can be an asshole, but she’s the only sister I have.

“Just a little bridezilla-ish lately,” I say.

“I’m getting married tomorrow,” she says, puckering her lips.

“Yeah, you are,” I tell her, “so what are you doing in my room? Shouldn’t you be with Laura?” I ask.

“No!” Beth shrieks, sitting up. “It’s the night before the wedding, that’s bad luck. We have separate rooms.”

“Is that really a thing? Are you ‘saving’ yourself until the wedding night?” I tease.

Beth rolls her eyes. “It’s tradition.”

“Youhavetasted the goods, right?” I raise my eyebrows, suddenly feeling all those mini bar liquor bottles make their way through my veins right to my mouth.

Beth groans. “You’re disturbing,” she gripes as she pushes me over.

“I think it’s very sweet,” Georgie pipes up.

Suddenly aware that Beth is in my room and Noelle is not, I ask, “Hey, where’s my kid? She’s supposed to be in your room with Ashley.” I ask.

“Oh my God, the Youtube videos, the weird Japanese death metal, I had to take a break,” Beth sighs, grabbing a bag of chips and popping them open.

“Where did you get those?” Georgie says, looking at the chips longingly as Beth shrugs.

“Do you have fucking worms?” I ask Georgie, annoyed, but don’t wait for an answer before turning back to Beth.

“Welcome to my world.” I roll my eyes and then look at her, the alcohol making me sappy. “I really like Laura, and her family is wonderful.”

“Oh, I know you do,” Georgie mumbles and I shoot her a glare.

“I’m just saying that I’m very happy for you, Beth.” I put my arm around her, and she lays her head on my shoulder. For a moment it feels like we’re kids again, back when things weren’t so complicated.

A loud ringing interrupts the moment, and we all look around for the source.

“Is that the fire alarm? Did someone set a fire?” Beth sits up quickly, looking around the room nervously.
