“I think the smell alone brings me to heaven,” Lily says as she inhales. “Yum.”

“My mouth is watering like crazy,” Chloe admits.

With another smile, Chef Pierre gestures to the table. “They’re ready. Please sit down and I’ll serve you.”

We thank him before settling down at the table. He prepared so many varieties of crepes, and it’s hard to choose which to try. They all look amazing.

Once we dig in, we can’t stop eating. The crepes are just that good. Even though Chef Pierre has been working for the Knights for years and is used to the praise, I still spot the elated smile overtaking his lips.

“Oh, Ava,” he says. “Your parents wanted me to tell you that they went out on a romantic excursion. They’ll be out the whole day.”

“Okay, thanks.”

“They also asked me to remind you to abide by the rules. No boys allowed.”

Ava dramatically clutches her chest. “They don’t trust me? They really think I’d go behind their backs and invite our boyfriends over.” She hits her chest. “That cuts me deep.”

Chloe, Lily, and I laugh.

Chef Pierre places hot chocolate before us.

“Oh my gosh, this is exactly what I need.” Chloe grabs her mug and takes a sip. “Heaven. Thanks, Chef Pierre.”

“My pleasure.”

After we stuff ourselves with crepes and finish our hot chocolates, we go to the living room to read. We’ll have our book club meeting on Monday and none of us have started the new pirate book.

“I snuck a peek at it,” Lily informs us as she turns on her e-reader. “I think it might be even more amazing than the last book.”

“No, no, no.” Ava places her hands over her ears and shakes her head. “No spoilers!”

“Sorry,” Lily says with a laugh. “But that wasn’t a spoiler.”

“I just need to approve some articles for the online newspaper,” Chloe says as she places her laptop on her knees and opens the lid. “Then I’ll sink my teeth into the book.” She frowns. “That would have been a good pun if we were reading a vampire book.”

“How about…set sail for the first chapter?” I suggest.

Chloe laughs. “Works for me.”

The room is quiet as we read the book. More like devour because it’s so riveting. Nearly every chapter ends on a cliffhanger that keeps me on the edge of my seat.

“Oh my gosh!” Ava squeals as she hurriedly turns the page. “Did you guys get to chapter ten yet?”

“You said no spoilers!” Lily complains.

“I know. You guys need to get to chapter ten.”

“I’m past it,” I tell Ava with a grin. “I loved it.”

“I’m almost there.” Chloe swipes to the next page on her e-reader. “It’s already getting good.”

The doorbell rings, and we collectively groan.

“Who dares to interrupt us while we’re reading?” Ava mumbles.

A short while later, a staff member enters the room. “There are three gentlemen waiting for you outside.”

Lily’s brow rises. “Three gentlemen?”
