“But that’s okay,” Chloe says. “It’s done its purpose. But I learned so much about myself while using the app. I stress out way too much about the newspaper. I definitely need to relax.”

“That’s a positive I hadn’t considered,” I say. I look out the window. “Wait. Are we here?”

My friends glance outside and realize that we are indeed parked outside Colt’s house.

“Peter, how long have we been here?” Ava asks her driver.

“A little while. I’m sorry, you kids looked like you were having a lot of fun and I didn’t want to disturb you. But we have arrived at our destination, ladies and gentlemen.”

“We should celebrate tonight by dancing our butts off with our special boyfriends,” Lily says as we get out of the car. “And you should celebrate with us, Willow. Because you made the most remarkable app to have ever graced this planet.”

“Sure. I’ll need to hang out with Colt, too, though.”

“Of course! Go to your man.”

I give her a look.

“What? He’s still your man, even if he’s yourfakeman.”

I shake my head before heading into the house. My friends and their guys follow me. The place isn’t as crowded as usual, probably because it’s a school night. But like the previous party, kids are dancing, making out, or chatting. I spot Colt immediately. He’s talking to Owen and his other friends.

A strange feeling enters my chest. A feeling of…disappointment? Loss? Something about him talking to his popular friends makes me feel…I don’t know. It’s like reality crashes down on me. When it was just the two of us, hanging out at bowling and video chatting, it was almost like he was just mine. As afriend, of course. But seeing him with his popular buddies reminds me that he and I could never be good friends because we’re from two different worlds.

I shake my head. Why do I even care about that? Until recently, I didn’t really know who Colton Andersen was. I have my friends and my family and my tech and books. Once he and I are over, I’ll go back to my life and everything will be good.

Except, my stomach twists at the thought.

“What are you guys doing here?” Noah, Chloe’s older brother, says as he stops before us. “Two parties in one month? You hate parties.” He turns to Chloe. “Who are you and what have you done with my sister?”

She lifts her chin. “We can have fun partying like any normal teenager. Besides, her boyfriend is the host.” She points her thumb in my direction. “So here we are.”

“Okay. No drinking, guys.”

Chloe groans. “Colton doesn’t have alcohol at his parties.”

“You think kids don’t sneak some in?Don’ttake drinks from anyone, okay?”

Chloe throws her hands up. “We’re not ten!”

He points between her and Liam. “And you two: no funny business.”

“Oh my gosh, Noah. If you don’t leave my sight in less than thirty seconds…”

“Just be careful, okay? Colton’s parties are usually tame, but you never know what could happen.” He nods to all of us. “Have fun, just not too much fun.” He turns to head to his friends.

“He’s worse than my dad,” Chloe grumbles.

Noah spins around. “I heard that.” His eyes find mine. “By the way, Willow. Cool app.”

“Thanks. You downloaded it?”

“Yeah. I’m curious who it will match me with.”

“Well, Chloe and Liam got mat—” Ava starts to say, but Chloe elbows her in the ribs, causing her to cry out. “What?” she hisses at Chloe.

“Nothing.” Chloe pastes on a smile and says to her brother, “Don’t you have your own friends to hang out with?”

He rolls his eyes at her before walking off.
