“Is your dad a dangerous man?” I wondered if he was like the men my father had gotten involved with. In seeking refuge, could I have ended up with another violent, questionable man?

“He deals with dangerous people.” She popped her butt out and stared at herself. “If you do what he says and don’t ask questions, he’ll take care of you.”

“I can take care of myself.”I didn’t have a plan, a job, a house, or any money. How was I going to take care of myself?

“No offense, but you’re not doing such a great job.” She glanced at me through the glass in the mirror. “I’m just saying, if my dad can help you, you should let him. He has money and resources. Whoever did that to your face is going to pay. That’s the way my dad is. He’s ruthless. He’ll protect you.”

“Maybe we should go back to your house now.”

“We haven’t even had lunch.” She smiled when another girl and guy came toward us. “You’re late.” Cassie hugged the girl in the thigh-high boots and short peach dress. “What took you so long?”

“He needed a new phone.” She thumbed at the guy who looked a few years older than Cassie and her friend. “You know how long that can take.”

“Hey, baby.” The guy with the long blond hair and crystal blue eyes hugged Cassie, trailing his hands along her sides. “I missed you.”

The hug turned into a long, intimate kiss. I glanced at the floor, feeling out of place.

“Who is your friend?” He released her, and looked me over.

“This is Emmie,” Cassie said. “She’s my dad’s friend.”

“Really?” The girl in the short skirt sat next to me, her gaze lingering on me for longer than I would have liked. “I’m Bristol and that’s Josh.”

“Hi.” I nodded at them.

“Who’s the dude?” Josh motioned toward Johnny.

“He’s our ride today. You know, helping with our packages and stuff.” Cassie smiled at me. “He won’t bother us.”

“A shopping spree?” Bristol looked at our bags in the corner of the room. “You must be a really good friend of Jude.”

“He’s a very generous man.” Why did Cassie’s friend care if Jude sent us shopping? “Do you know him well?”

“I’ve known him since Cassie and I were five. He’s like a second dad to me.” She smirked. “A hot dad I’d like to fuck.”

“Eww.” Cassie wrinkled her nose. “That’s gross.”

“You know you have a sexy dad. Everyone knows he’s hot and all of your friends have multiple fantasies about him. There is a whole group chat dedicated to it.”

“I’d rather not know.” Cassie didn’t look as disgusted as she should about her friends lusting over her dad. “I need to get out of these clothes and pay for them. Emmie, I’m getting you a pair of these leggings. They fit like a glove.” She took Josh’s hand. “Come in the dressing room with me.”

“I like that invitation.” Josh followed her into the room. “Can I help you get out of these clothes?”

“You can turn around while I get undressed.” She laughed. “Maybe I’ll give you a peek at my panties.”

“Did you get anything good?” Bristol glanced at the overabundance of bags. “That’s some shopping spree.”

“Cassie did most of the shopping. I trust her judgment.”

“How do you know Jude?”

“Just from around.” I went over to the table with some pretty shirts covered in sparkly stuff.

“Did you meet him at his club?” Bristol joined me, unfolding one of the shirts and draping it in front of her.

“No.”What kind of club?

“You don’t look old enough to go to his club.” She put the shirt back on the table without folding it. “Are you?”
