“I’m sorry we got interrupted.”

“That man is the one who wanted to sell me.”

“Yes, his name is Caleb Myers.”

“Why was he here?”

“Business.” When I reached for her, she stepped back. “It’s nothing for you to worry—”

“Are you giving me to him?”

“Am I… What?” Did she honestly think that little of me? “You’re seriously asking me that?”

“I fulfilled my end of the bargain.” She gripped the top of the towel to keep it from falling off her damp skin. “You don’t have any use for me now.”

“I don’t have any use for you?” I grabbed her upper arm and yanked her toward me, trying to control my frustration. “Fucking you was not a one-shot deal.”

“Stop.” She tried to struggle out of my hold.

“No, not until you understand what you agreed to.”

“What was I supposed to think when I saw him here twenty minutes after we had sex?” When she tried to pull away from me again, something inside me snapped. “Let go!”

“I said no.” I kept my voice low but stern. “Have you forgotten which one of us is in charge?”

“The other night Cobra was at your club, and today his boss was here. Despite what you may think, I’m not stupid.”

“I never said you were.” Where the hell did that come from? “I told you that you don’t have to worry about Cobra anymore.”

“How can I not?”

“Because you have to trust me.”

“Trust you? I don’t know anything about you. I don’t know what you do for a living,” she shouted. “Why do you even know these men?”

“Lower your voice.” Cassie was down the hall, and while she probably had her music blaring in her ears, I didn’t want to take any chances. “I don’t owe you any explanations. All you have to do is accept that I can and will protect you.”

“Protect me from what? I thought you said once you paid the debt this would be over.”

“There are aspects to this business you’ll never understand. These people are relentless. If they want something, they will try to take it.”

“What do they want?” she asked.

“Something they think I’ll easily agree to, but that’s where they are mistaken.”

When I let go of her arm, she took advantage of the situation and moved across the room. That angered me. I followed her faster than she had anticipated, grabbing her again and turning her to face me.

“Don’t turn your back on me.”

“I don’t like not knowing what’s going on.”

“Where is this courage coming from?” I laughed, but I liked it. “Did my taking your innocence bring out your bolder side?” I pushed her against the wall. “Do you like to fight, wild one?”

“No, I don’t…” She stopped when I gripped her throat. “No.”

“Because I know you like to run.” When I took her hand and pressed it against my cock, her towel hit the floor. “See what your fight does to me?” I unbuckled my belt. “Are you ready for round two?”

She didn’t answer, so I gripped her chin and kissed her mouth, forcing an answer from her lips.
