“Jude.” She sat up and arched her back, rocking faster, bringing herself to climax. When she leaned back and rested her palms on my thighs, I lost it. Watching her ride me was one of the hottest things I’d ever seen. I glanced between us, trying to control myself, but the sight of my dick disappearing inside her was too much.

“I’m going to come.” I brought her lips back to me, biting down on one as I let loose inside her. “Fuck,” I muttered against her mouth.

“Mmm…” The warmth of her release trickled down my shaft as she continued to shift her pelvis, mingling our juices.

“Perfection.” I sighed when she rolled off me and cuddled next to me. “You’ll always matter to me.”

Chapter 21

Emmie

“Did you enjoy your birthday dinner?” Jude asked as he fed me another bite of the decadent chocolate cheesecake covered in raspberry sauce.

“It was delicious.” I held up my hand. “But you have to stop feeding me the dessert. I’m so full.”

“Hmm…” He swirled his finger in the sauce then smeared it across my lips. “But you taste amazing.” He licked my top lip before kissing me. “Scrumptious.”

“Thank you for making today so special.” I gazed around the private room at the club decorated in balloons and lights. “You didn’t have to do all of this.” It reminded me of a New Year’s Eve celebration I had seen on TV once.

“Nonsense, it’s your birthday. You deserve all of this.”

He had a private chef and staff take care of every detail. Dinner, decorations, prosecco, cake, music, and him. He even bought me a new red dress to wear for the occasion. There wasn’t anything else I needed.

“I love everything.”

“I have something for you.” He went behind the bar that was situated across the room and grabbed two packages. They were wrapped in a shimmery pink paper and topped with silver, glittery bows. “Birthday presents.”

“I don’t need presents.” I was curious what was in the boxes, but I didn’t expect anything else. “You bought me this dress, and we had a beautiful dinner with cake and decorations. It’s too much.”

“You’re not supposed to be stressed.” He placed the boxes on the table. “We’re celebrating you.” He pulled his chair close so that when he sat, he faced me. “This is a special occasion.”

“I’ve never celebrated my birthday before.”

“Never?”

“My grandmother baked me a cake when I was younger, and she would buy me a toy or something that I wanted, but after she died, I don’t think my father even remembered when my birthday was.” I stared at the presents. “When I was fourteen all the girls were wearing these really cool dresses. They were short and looked amazing with all those boots Cassie has. I thought if I dropped a few hints and wished really hard, I might get one for my birthday. I don’t know why I thought that because he never bought me a present, and the dress was too expensive anyway. It was the last time I ever wished for a birthday or Christmas present.”

“You do know if I ever get the opportunity to meet your father, I’m going to kill him, right?”

“I hope I never see him again.”

“Let’s not ruin this memory with thoughts of that bastard and what a shitty childhood he gave you.”

“Cassandra is lucky she has you.” I traced my fingers along his beard. “I’m lucky too.”

“I’m the lucky one.” He placed his hand over mine, pressing it to his face. “I like when you touch me like that. You do it without even thinking.”

“It calms me.”

“Me too.”

When he stared into my eyes, I lost my breath. Being with him consumed me, and it made me forget who I was before him—the frightened girl with no one and nothing. I wasn’t talking about the material items he provided me with. The clothes, the phone, and all the things I didn’t know I needed were great, but I didn’t need them. I had gone so long without those things that I was used to having nothing. Jude had given me a home, a family, and a place to call my own.

“Open this one first.” He handed me one of the packages. “I’m interested to hear what you think.”

I slid my finger under the seam in the sparkly wrapping paper and revealed the back of a book. When I flipped it over, I saw that it was a book featuring an artist whose work I had admired the past few years.

“Do you know who she is?” Jude asked.
