He pulls me close and curls me up in his arm, casually hugging me. Then he walks me out the door. “Come on. You just need some food and some Steele time.”

I smile up at him, feeling giddy with some bubbly emotion that fizzes in my blood like wine. Shoving at the strange feeling, I step away from him and dance a little two-step.

His dark head cocks and he lifts an eyebrow. “I haven’t said I’ll watch that blasted chick movie.”

“You haven’t said no either.”

“Fine. But the next movie I’m picking.”

I nod my head and then I feel guilty for just a second. Because I know he’ll probably let me pick the next time too.

If he was anybody but my brother’s teammate, he’d be the perfect boyfriend.

My breath catches and my eyes wander to the side, drinking in the sight of his sculpted cheeks lightly dusted with a days growth of beard. His black hair is still wet from his shower. His big hand holds his gym bag that’s stuffed with all things hockey that he might need and weighs a damn ton. But he doesn’t even breathe hard. He’s so big that I barely come up to the middle of his chest. His very broad, muscular chest that’s one slab of muscle built on another slab of muscle. His dark brows slash over deep-set silver-grey eyes that can laugh one minute and glare holes like lasers through an opponent the next.

There’s something endlessly fascinating about how big and ripped he is.

But that shit needs locked down.

We reach the movie theater and he pays for the tickets even though I protest.

“I picked the movie. I should pay,” I say.

“And I already said no and paid. So this discussion is over.”

“You’re bossy tonight.”

“I’m bossy every night. You just choose to ignore it.”

“You’re making it damn hard to do that.”

He stifles a laugh. “That’s the idea, firefly.”

“Let’s go.” His big hand settles in the middle of my back, propelling me forward and into the darkness of the half-lit theater.

I dig my feet in and he stops, eyeing me carefully. “What’s going on, firefly?”

“I don’t know.” I feel off-kilter again and my skin is buzzing where he touched me.

“Come on. Let’s go watch your stupid rom-com.” His hand pushes at me again and this time I let him herd me into the room. He finds a pair of seats all the way in the back of the theater away from most of the audience.

“I really wish you weren’t so famous sometimes,” I grouse.

He grins and shoves a handful of popcorn that we picked up on the way in, into his mouth. “I know. I wish the same thing sometime. But then I wouldn’t be able to help as many people as I have.”

Steele is involved in a lot of different charities, giving his time and money as much as he can.

He’s an obnoxiously great guy. It makes me wonder why I never wanted to go out with him. It’s been weighing on my mind a lot. I miss him when he has to go on the road. I have strong feelings for him but only friendship.

My heart jumps in my chest when he leans over and whispers in my ear. “So….any good sex scenes in this one?”

“Looking for some inspiration?” I laugh at his scowl.

“I don’t need any help, thank you.” His stiff tone and the way his back is ramrod straight just makes me laugh harder.

“I imagine there is.”

The previews end and the movie starts. Within minutes I’m swept away. And confused. The whole plot is about two friends who become more than that. Friends with benefits, as they say. And how they manage to stay together when they both fall in love.
