“Don’t act dumb! How could you lead me on like this and then agree to marry those… those three homewreckers?” Her eyes are wild and I see her clearly, probably for the first time.

“Leading you on over what?”

“Us! Us being together! Why else would you agree to work here?” She stands and paces back and forth behind her desk, and while her behavior and delusion are concerning, I feel safe with it between us.

“I’m not sure what gave you that impression, but I remember repeatedly rejecting you when we first met and not showing even an ounce of romantic interest in you, ever.” How she can take my working for her as an interest in her? I didn’t even ask for the job. Rhett brought it up and she offered, almost insisted.

“You love me! I know you do! It’s just that those three are clouding your feelings for me. I need to get you away from them,” she rants, leaning over the top of her desk.

I’m not sure who she is anymore. I now see her for what she is. A liar and a narcissist. She’s completely unhinged. She definitely hid it well.

I move to stand, and she leaps over and onto me knocking me down. For her size, she’s surprisingly strong. We crash to the floor, my hip and right shoulder screaming in pain from me landing more on that side.

I struggle to get her off me and she pulls back, slapping me across the face. Being a domme, she knows exactly how to hit to get the most out of it. The sting in my cheek burns like I’ve never felt before and tears spring to my eyes.

Her hit gives her the opportunity to straddle me and sit on my chest. Her petite hands wrap around my neck and cut off my already limited air supply since she's pressing down on my chest with all her weight.

I make gargling noises and grip her wrists, digging my nails into her flesh, trying to pull them off me. It doesn’t faze her in the slightest. My feet flail around trying to get a solid footing on her wood floor but my stockings aren’t helping and they slide out from under me. I’m not sure where my shoes have gone or when I lost them.

“I love you,” she cries as she continues to choke the life from me. Tears streak down her face marring her perfectly applied mascara. Her once sleek hair is now a mess and mused in all directions. Her vice-like grip unbelievably squeezes even more around my neck.

My vision flickers in and out of focus and my hands fall from her death hold around my neck. I want so badly to continue to fight her off but my body is out of oxygen and it won’t obey my brain's commands.

In one last attempt to do something, anything, I buck my hips to try and dislodge her, but it’s like she’s a professional bronc rider and she doesn’t budge.

I’m sure I’m going to blackout but, like a knight coming to the rescue, Cade is there. He yanks Cammy off me and I suck in much-needed air. On my exhale, I cough and struggle to inhale more of what my body desperately needs.

As I try to gulp in precious air, Cade struggles with Cammy and after her trying to get at me several times he eventually rips the wires from her computer from it and the wall to tie her up in a hogtie fashion.

He rushes over to me as I manage to sit up with one hand gingerly at the abused flesh on my neck.

“My God, Elle. Are you okay?” He kneels down next to me. But that’s not enough for me. Her attack brings up when Mr. Neal attacked me and I dive into his arms, holding tight to him for strength.

“Shh… You’re okay. You’re okay, I’m right here,” Cade soothes me over Cammy’s shouted threats.

30 What Now

After dealing with the police yet again and getting home, Cade has me on strict voice rest so I don’t suffer any permanent damage from Cammy choking me.

Cammy was arrested and we are now home in my king bed. I’m snuggled in between Cade and Rhett, with Alaric at my feet giving them one of his expert massages.

Whiteboard and dry erase marker in hand, I write out a question.

What do we do now?

Cade reads it and answers, “Now, we move on and press charges against her. She’ll be banned from the club for life and probably lose her boutique. Results depending, she’ll probably be admitted to a mental hospital until they can properly evaluate her and get her the help she clearly needs. Which is nothing when I think about what she did.”

The muscle in his jaw ticks and I choose to let the topic drop and rest my head on his shoulder while Rhett puts on one of my favorite movies.

Embrace called Cade and told him they traced the video back to Cammy and that they also found out she was the one who sent the picture to us. They have eyewitnesses that saw her taking pictures during our scene but apparently, she also took video.

Her help at the restaurant seemed so conniving and her offer for a job is now clear that she did it just to get me closer to her to help with her delusion that I loved her.

I feel sad for her.

I’ll never know what it’s like to want something I can’t have so badly I’d kill for it. Because I believe if not for Cade, she would have done just that.

At least now we can start our new life together with a clean slate.
