We climbed into bed, and I laid my head on his chest. With Teo's arms around me, I felt better than I had in all the time since Gabe took me. My body still hurt all over, and my muscles were weak and shaky, but I was back with Teo. He was alive, and I was finally free from Andrea once and for all.
We laid there in the comfortable silence for a long time. After all the craziness that we had been through we both needed some quiet time to just hold each other and be still.
Teo lazily ran his fingertips over my arm and shoulder nearly sending me into a trance with his touch.
The content quiet was broken by the chiming of Teo's phone. He ignored it but a second chime came in. I tilted my head up so that I could look at him.
"If you need to get that..."
"No, it's fine."
"What if it's important? It could be one of the guys."
"Okay." Teo rolled to his side to grab his phone from the nightstand.
He scrolled for a moment, sent a long text back, before returning to his spot with me.
"Everything okay?"
"Yeah. Nic's got us a way back to Italy but we're going to have to split up."
"Split up, why?"
"There's a couple smaller boats leaving separate ports. Neither can carry all of us. Some will leave from the eastern port and sail into Tuscany while the rest of us will travel to the northern tip of Corsica and go from there toward the South of France. We do enough business there that if we fly from Nice to Italy it won't seem unusual."
"A trip to Nice?" I perked up, lifting my head to smile at Teo.
His brow lifted. "Would you like that?"
I tilted my head as if to consider the question. "Hmm. Would I enjoy going back to the place where we first met and fell in love?"
Teo gently tickled my side and I giggled.
"You know..." His sudden seriousness snapped me out of my laughter to listen to him. "Wecouldsee if my dad, Dario, and Mira could fly out to meet us there."
"Oh," I said, feeling a bit deflated.
"You wouldn't like for them to be there too?"
"I don't know." I shrugged. "Don't get me wrong, I love your family. But I just thought it would be good to get away from it all for a while."
"Well, that's what the honeymoon will be for. I thought it would be nice to have our families at our wedding."
I froze in surprise and pushed myself up onto my elbow to better face Teo. "Wedding?"
"You said before that you liked the idea of a wedding in Nice."
"Yeah. I did. But I thought..."
"We tried it my father's way and that didn't work out. I think it's time we take control of our destiny. So, you still want to marry me?"
"With all my heart."
"Good. Then we will get the majority of the men on the eastern ship. Nic, Dante, Luca, Alessandro, and Enzo will come with us to the Northern port and from there we will meet my father and the rest of the family in Nice."
"That sounds perfect. I'm almost too afraid to get my hopes up after everything that's happened."
"Don't ever be afraid to feel hopeful. I will always do everything within my power to make your dreams come true."
