"Oh, okay." Teo was acting odd. He hadn’t felt that distant from me in a long while and I hated the reminder of it. Especially after everything we’d just gone through and with the wedding so close.

"I’m going to go check in with my father, then I’ll be off. I’m sorry, Mia.” The weight of those words left a sickening feeling settling into the pit of my stomach. There was something about the way he said he was sorry, like he was apologizing for a lot more than having to run a few errands.

“And we have a full day tomorrow," Mira added.

My brow furrowed, and I turned to face her. "We do?"

“We have your final dress fitting, remember? Plus, I was going to surprise you with a spa day so that you could be relaxed and refreshed for your special day.”

“That would be nice.” I looked at Teo apologetically. “I guess that means the next time we see each other will be at our wedding.”

“Well, you always like the idea of me not getting to see you before the wedding. I guess you'll be getting your wish then won't you?” Teo smiled but it didn't reach his eyes and I couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right.

I stepped forward and took his hands in mine, looking up into his eyes and searching for answers that he wasn't willing to share. “Are you sure everything's all right?”

"Of course." He reached up and brushed his thumb over my cheek, warming me as he cupped my face. "There's nothing for you to worry about."

"Okay."

"I love you."

"I love you too." Still uneasy and desperate to feel a connection to him, I softly pressed my lips to his and he returned it with a gentle kiss.

"I'm sorry. I really have to go.".

"It's okay. You take care of business now because in two days you're all mine." I forced my doubts out of my mind and smiled, reassured slightly by the smile Teo returned.

That feeling didn’t last as Teo cast me a regretful look before turning to walk out the door.

Teo

Ihated lying to Mia. I could stare down the barrel of an enemy's gun and lie without breaking a sweat, but one glance into those deep, brown eyes and my resolve crumbled.

In two days, I was supposed to stand at an altar on a cliff overlooking the Verdon Gorge and vow to love, honor, and cherish the woman I wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with. But before I could do that, I had to find out the truth about Anna.

If she was lying about me being the father, then I would deal with her, and Mia would never have to hear about any of it. But if it was true and Anna was carrying my child, I had to know.
