Itook Mia and leftthe rehearsal. My focus was on keeping her calm and not letting her give up on our wedding. I knew how important it would be to her to have a real wedding ceremony, and I would be damned if I was going to miss the opportunity to finally watch her walk down that aisle to me, knowing that she was finally going to be mine.

Mira and the other girls were determined to make sure that everything was wonderful for Mia, and I was so happy that she had friends and family in her life that were willing to go so far to ensure her happiness. My guys were working on finding the perfect location and, while I was supposed to leave it up to them, I made sure that they knew to run everything by me first.

I wanted to make sure that things were perfect, and I wouldn't leave it in anyone's hands but my own from that point on. After a romantic dinner for two in my hotel room, I dropped Mia off in her room for the night.

As much as I tried to insist on Mia staying in my room so that I could keep an eye on her, she was determined to have some tradition in the wedding which I could respect.

As soon as I arrived back at my hotel I went to work calling Mira to check on their progress.

"Yes, brother. Everything's coming together wonderfully. The guys found the perfect location. It's lower down on a secluded little spot on the water. It's beautiful and we're setting up some simple yet elegant decorations. Mia is going to love it."

"Good. Have some of the guys guard the location and shifts. I don't want any more incidents, and I’m not leaving anything else to chance."

"Will do."

"Thank you, Mira. For everything you have done for Mia—and for me."

"It's what family does, and Mia is as much my family as she will be yours soon."

"Well, in any case, thank you."

"Of course. And I'll get Luca to organize security for the new ceremony location."

"Thank you. I'm going to give Alessandro a call and get him to arrange for the guys to guard Mia's hotel room as well. I want someone watching her constantly until I can be with her."

"And what about you?"

"What about me?"

"You need someone watching out for you too."

"I don't need anyone watching out for me. I can take care of myself."

"While you sleep? And you have to sleep the night before your wedding. I think Mia would agree with me and it would help all of us to rest easier."

"Okay. Fine." I resigned with a sigh. "I'll have someone watching outside my hotel room as well."

"Good. Thank you."

That night after everything had been arranged, I sat in my hotel suite, having a drink with my father, when my phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Sir." I recognized the voice as Alessandro's man I had met earlier in the evening when he took over for the last guy to guard my room.

"Tomas, what's wrong?"

"Rocco just spotted someone suspicious outside of Mia's room. When he went to check it out, the guy ran. He's still got them on the run, but he needs backup.

"So, Mia's room is unguarded? Go help him find the guy. I'm heading to her room now to make sure that she's okay."

I hung up the phone and called out to my dad, letting him know what was going on as I grabbed my keys and ran out the door toward Mia's room. I hated that I'd let her convince me that we shouldn't be in adjoining rooms at the very least. She wanted there to be a little distance so that we didn't accidentally run into each other when she was transporting her wedding dress or leaving for the ceremony.

I finally made it to her room and tried to enter, but it was locked. I banged on the door, making it rattle until Mia quickly opened it.
