"Of course not." Teo wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me to his side.

"I was just congratulating our don," Enzo said smoothly but he was lying.

If that was a congratulatory conversation, it was the most intense one I'd ever witnessed. I wouldn't call him out on it, though. Not when he was clearly taking his cues from my husband.

"We shouldn't keep everyone waiting," Teo squeezed my hip slightly and nodded to Enzo before pulling me away.

Once we were out of earshot, I glanced up at him while otherwise not changing my expression. "So, are you going to tell me what that was really about?"

"What?"

"That extremely intense congratulations that Enzo was offering to you.”

I looked at him with a skeptically raised eyebrow and he smiled affectionately at me.

“You caught on to that, huh?”

“I'm very observant, but it wouldn't have taken my impressive observation skills to know that it was more than a casual conversation.”

“Some of my men remained in Corsica when we left. They're doing some recon. I needed to have eyes there. And they've picked up on some chatter that may hopefully lead to the men responsible for the attacks in Nice and the ones on us now. There's nothing definitive, which is why I wasn't going to say anything to you until I knew more. I don't want this overshadowing our wedding day.”

"That's all I needed to know. Thank you for telling me. Although, I hope we can get to the point where you come tell me without me having to catch you."

"Now what would the fun in that be?” Teo smirked playfully and pulled me a little closer to his side.

We came to a stop just outside the private dining hall where our family waited. He turned to look at me, lifting my chin with a crooked finger so that my eyes met his. "I promise, I will be open and honest with you about my business dealings. I don't want us hiding anything from each other anymore. I want us to be a team. Like you said."

“Good. Because I think we make a pretty spectacular one.”

“As do I. Now, wife, I think it's time we enjoy our celebration. God knows it's been a long time coming."

The day after our wedding, we flew home, and the very next evening, was our wedding reception where we planned to make our official debut in front of all the members of the family. It would be the first time our two families were in the same place at the same time on such a large scale.

Mia’s hand trembled in mine. We wanted peace between our families and the reception to be a happy occasion for all. Because even after only two days, I already knew that I was going to be happy with Mia as my wife.
