"Mia, please? And I am so glad that you were able to join us, Senator."
"I wouldn't have missed it. You look lovely as always, Mia. Marriage agrees with you."
As they exchanged pleasantries I was suddenly pulled from their conversation when Alessandro took me by the arm.
“Teo, I need to speak with you for a moment.”
“Can’t it wait?”
“I’m afraid not.”
I gave him a nod, and we found a quiet corner where we could talk.
“Alright, what’s going on?”
Alessandro leaned in to whisper conspiratorially. “One of my men who stayed behind in Corsica just called me. He found where Graziani has been hiding.”
“Shit, that’s fantastic news.” As the Corsican’s leader, finding Graziani would go a long way toward taking down their organization once and for all.
“I’d like your permission to take a couple of teams down there so that we can take him out once and for all.”
“I don’t know, Alex. It’s a dangerous mission. You’re supposed to be my underboss now that I’m taking over as don.”
“As your underboss, and your friend, let me do this for you and Mia. Let me give you the wedding present of peace by eliminating one of your biggest threats.”
“Call La Guerriglia to join you with his men and take Luca and a team of his men with you, too. I want others down there to have your back.”
“Thank you.” Alessandro moved to leave but I called after him. “Hey, Alex...”
“Yeah?”
“Take that bastard down.”
“Yes, sir.” Alessandro gave me a determined nod before grabbing Luca and heading for the door.
As soon as Alessandro was gone, Mia headed by direction. "Ciao, my love."
"Ciao, bellissima.Are you enjoying the celebration?" I placed my arm around her waist and pulled her against me. I wasn’t sure what it was about her, but I craved her body against mine all the time.
"Yes. It's wonderful. But what was that before with Alessandro? Is everything all right?"
"Everything's fine. I was just waiting until you were done talking to the senator to come talk to you. One of the men we left behind in Corsica was able to locate the men who were responsible for the attack in Nice as well as helping Romano with kidnapping and holding you. I'm sending Alessandro and Luca down with some of their men to hunt them down and take them out once and for all."
"Just them? Will that be enough to take them down?”
“La Guerriglia and some of his men will also be meeting them there to offer support. Then this will be done, once and for all."
"I can't even imagine what that would be like. No longer having to worry or look over our shoulders all the time."
"We will always have to be vigilant. With the power we hold, there will always be enemies, but it would alleviate a large portion of our concern. I may even be able to start working from the office more often, instead of staying home to keep an eye on you."
"Oh, well, maybe we need to rethink this then because I like having you at home," Mia teased though I suspected it was partially true.
"Yes, but then I'd get to leave more of my work at work, and I'd get to enjoy coming home, throwing you over my shoulder and hauling you up to our bedroom every evening."
"I do like the sound of that." Mia’s cheeks turned pink. She leaned in, pressing her body against mine and I lowered my lips to kiss her.
"Sir?" Alessandro interrupted apologetically and I straightened just before my lips had the chance to meet Mia’s. "I'm sorry to talk business during your wedding celebration."
