"It's okay. This is important."
"Did you talk to Luca?" I asked Alessandro and he nodded.
"He was just about to go gather his men."
"Good. And La Guerriglia?"
"He's all set."
"Perfect."
“Please be careful,” Mia said to my surprise.
“We will be. Just think of this as a small wedding present for you both. A bit of closure after those assholes attacked in Nice.”
“It will be much more than asmallgift. I assure you.” Mia gave him a genuine smile of gratitude.
“We should get going. Enjoy your honeymoon and we will see you when you get back.”
“Thank you again, Alessandro.”
Alessandro seemed slightly uncomfortable accepting Mia’s gratitude, probably because to him, he’s only doing what has to be done for the family. He never did anything for the praise which was one of the reasons I felt he would make a good underboss. He gave Mia and I a brief nod and hurried off to collect his men.
Mia let out a quiet sigh and I looked down at her. “What is it?”
“Do you really think they’re going to be safe?”
“I do.” I wrapped my arms around her waist and pulled her close. “We live in a dangerous world and sometimes we have to do dangerous things, but Alessandro and the other men are good at what they do. I always try my best to find where someone excels and place them in a position to succeed. There are always challenges but if they are truly where they are supposed to be then they will rise to them.”
There was a sparkle in Mia’s eyes and her plump, sexy lips curled up into a mischievous grin. “And what do you see that I excel at?”
“Oh, there are many positions that I know you will excel at, and I plan to test each and every one of them out while we’re on our honeymoon.”
“You promise?” She nearly purred as she looked up at me with a playful smirk.
I gripped her chin, tilting her head back before claiming her lips. I only pulled away enough to mutter my words against her lips. “Oh, I guarantee it.”
