Mia

After another amazingnight with Teo, I fell asleep in his arms, wondering if I'd even have the ability to climb out of bed in the morning.

We had put off going on our honeymoon until after our reception. I had plans for lunch with the girls but after that we would be taking the private jet to Paris for a week.

Teo wanted to take me on a month-long honeymoon around Europe. But with Nic and Mira returning to Las Vegas and Alessandro and Luca in Corsica, that only left Enzo and Dario to assist Piero in running two merging families while we were away. So, we decided that it would be better not to be gone for too long.

It had been my intention to sleep in until I had to get up to start getting ready for lunch. Since getting married, Teo had become wonderfully insatiable, and I loved every minute of it even if it left me exceedingly tired and in constant need of mid-day naps just to keep up. I stirred slightly, turning onto my back, when an intense wave of nausea struck.

I ran into the bathroom just in time to heave into the toilet. It had been a few days since my bout of food poisoning, and I worried why I might still have problems three days later. I splashed cool water on my face and walked back into the bedroom. Teo still slept soundly.

I grabbed my phone from the nightstand when another wave hit. I ran back into the bathroom but managed not to throw up again. I lowered myself into the floor, leaning against the tub in case the nausea got too bad.

I pulled out my phone and dialed Arman.

"Mia? Is everything okay?"

"Yeah. Well, sort of. I'm sorry. Did I wake you?"

"No. I'm at the clinic today. What's going on, Mia?"

"The day of the wedding, I got food poisoning after eating breakfast from the hotel."

"Food poisoning? Why didn't you call me?"

"I was just so focused on feeling well enough to go through with the wedding. And I didn’t want Teo finding out and worrying. The girls helped, though."

"Okay, but you seemed okay at the wedding. What's going on now?"

"I woke up sick again today and I wanted to know if that could happen. Can you have a relapse from food poisoning?"

"It's possible but usually once you recover that's it. Why don't you come by the clinic today and let me check you out before you go on your honeymoon. You don't need to travel if you're sick."

"I'm supposed to have lunch with the girls at one and I don’t even know how I'm going to be around food."

"I'm sure Vittoria and the others would understand if you don’t feel up to lunch."

"I really don’t want to miss it. It's the last time we will all be together until Mira’s graduation in the spring."

"Okay, you could be dehydrated. That can cause nausea after being ill. If that’s all it is, I can give you an electrolyte IV which should do the trick, but I’d really feel better if you’d let me check you out."

"Okay," I sighed reluctantly.

"Usually by ten, the morning rush has cleared. That would give you time to get ready for your lunch, you can run by here, I'll check you out, and if everything is okay, you can still have your time with the girls."

"Thank you, Arman. I don't know what I'd do without you."

"That's what family's for."

"Well, thank you, all the same. I'll see you soon."

We ended the call and I slowly pulled myself up off the floor and into the shower. Roughly thirty-minutes later I was slipping out the door, trying not to wake Teo. I didn't want him to worry.

I still felt nauseated as I drove to the clinic and was relieved when I arrived, to see that Arman was right about the clinic being slow.

"Mia, hi," a sweet older nurse but I vaguely remembered said in a cheerful tone. How are you?"

"I'm—"
