I glanced at Teo’s phone since I was sitting next to him and saw Gabe as he moved the screen to focus on a girl tied to a chair. “What the...” I muttered quietly until the girl’s face came into view.Sienna.
My whole world dropped out from under me, and I felt like I was going to be swallowed up by it. I couldn’t breathe, couldn’t speak, all I could do was stare in shock at the image of Sienna on Teo’s phone.
“What are you doing with her?”
“Well, rumor has it, she found out some stuff that she wasn’t supposed to, and you were either going to indoctrinate her or kill her, but she went missing before you had a chance. I want to return her to you.”
My shoulders fell slightly when he mentioned that he wanted to return her to us and not that he was going to hurt her or worse. Nothing surprised me with him, not after he’d kidnapped Mia and traded her to our enemies.
“Why?” Teo asked coolly and I fought the urge to scream for him to bring her back immediately.
“I want back in.”
“And you think that returning some girl is going to wipe the slate clean?”
“That, and the information that I can offer to you about the Romanos.”
“Why would you do that? I thought they offered you all kinds of promotions and prestige in exchange for betraying us.”
“Well, Andrea Romano did. Turns out his brother doesn’t agree.”
“So, you want to return because you’re out of options,” Teo stated flatly.
“Do we have a deal or not?”
“You’d be the low man on the totem pole.”
“It’d be better than what I have now.”
“Let me talk it over with my administration and I’ll get back to you.”
“Okay, you have one hour before I start sending body parts.”
Teo ended the call and I practically jumped on him. “What the hell are you doing? Make the deal and get her back, you can deal with Gabe after.”
“You know that any information he has on the Romanos is probably void. They wouldn’t tell him anything important and risk it getting back to us,” Enzo warned.
“Of course, I know that.” Teo shook his head.
“But you can still agree to let him back to get Sienna from him. Besides, it will flush him out, and we can take him down once and for all.”
Teo nodded.
“Then what are you waiting for?”
“If I’d agreed that quickly, Gabe would be more suspicious. I’ll call him back in twenty minutes to arrange a meeting.”
“Twenty minutes? What if he hurts Sienna in the meantime?”
“He’s not going to hurt her until he knows if I’m going to agree or not. He wouldn’t throw away one of his only bargaining chips.”
Teo used the time to plan a place to meet and how we would take Gabe down, all the while I couldn’t focus on anything except the seconds ticking by on the large wall clock. It was the longest twenty minutes of my life.
When Teo finally dialed Gabe back, I held my breath as we waited for him to answer the video request.
“Ciao.That didn’t take too long. I’m assuming that you have made your decision.”
“I have.”
