“Do you know what time it is?” she hissed at me when she picked up. “I just got Avalyn to sleep. She was up all evening until I got home from your party.”

Guilt and anxiety and frustration collided, and I started sobbing. Trin instantly went into fix-it mode.

“Piper! Sit down and take a few deep breaths.” I dropped down onto the floor and curled my legs toward my chest. Pressing my forehead to my knees, I sucked in a few deep breaths. “When you’re ready, tell me what the fuck is going on.”

I tried to calm my crying, but it wouldn’t stop, so I just garbled it all out through the sobs. Somehow, Trin was able to understand me. “Jarrett, I need you to trace Cannon’s phone.”

I sat there on the floor of my bedroom for a few minutes before she spoke again. “His phone is off, Piper. And the tracking has been disabled. But Jarrett is trying both Asher’s phone and Smith’s now.”

“O-okay. Th-thank you.”

I heard another long pause and then a curse. “They’re traveling south. They’ve gone into Mexico. Both phones are in the same location, so Asher and Smith are together. Whether Cannon is with them or not is another story.”

“We have to find him,” I sobbed. “He… We… But I…”

“Piper, sweetie, just take a few more deep breaths for me. Jarrett is getting dressed now. He will find Cannon. I promise.”

“Jagger,” I choked out. “Take Jagger too.”

“Barrick and Jagger will both go with Jarrett,” she assured me. “But right now, I need you to stay calm.”

“My parents will think he bailed on me. And I don’t want to think about it, but maybe he did.”

“Shut the fuck up!” Trin snapped. “You two have had your issues for decades. Decades, Piper. But in the past two years, that idiot has proven to me and everyone else that you are the sun he revolves around. Even if you two had the fight of all fights, he wouldn’t bail on you. Pull your shit together. My husband is going to go find your man, and then we’re going to sort out Asher and Smith. Until then, drink something strongly caffeinated and extra sweet. I’ll be over as soon as I can.”

Chapter 4

Piper

The sun was setting Sunday night, and Trinity was still at my apartment. Shaw had shown up, minus Grier, as well as Mia. The three of them tried to keep me calm but having gone almost twenty-four hours without contact with my brother, Cannon, or even Smith, I was starting to lose my fucking mind.

Trin was on the phone with her husband, but after Asher and Smith had crossed the border into Mexico, they must have wised up and turned off their phones, because Jarrett and the guys lost track of their location after that. It was only in the past hour that my brother had turned his phone back on and, for some reason, also enabled his location once again. Oddly enough, he was in California.

While my friend spoke quietly with her husband in the corner of the kitchen, my own phone went off. Seeing it was Hymn, I immediately picked it up, hoping she had news regarding my brother.

“Hymn?” I muttered when she didn’t speak.

Instead of her voice, I heard Asher’s in the background.

“I fixed the problem,” Asher said with a cocky confidence that set my teeth on edge.

“What are you talking about? We didn’t have a problem, Ash. You had one. This obsession you have with Piper marrying Cannon is becoming too much, and I was just tired of hearing you bitch about it. They’re getting married on Saturday, and there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s time to get over it, move on, and be happy for your sister.”

“There’s not going to be a wedding.” He laughed heartily, making me feel physically ill. “I made sure of that.”

“Fuck, Asher, what did you do?” Hymn demanded, her voice full of trepidation.

“Just dropped him off at some whore’s house so he can have a little fun. Smith says Erica is so good at sucking dick, there’s no way Cannon will want to come home.” A deep chuckle came from the background. “Smith even snapped a few pictures with Cannon’s phone. My sister will be getting the photos first thing tomorrow, and after she sees him in action with Erica, she’ll be canceling the wedding.”

Hymn muttered a vicious curse. “How did you get Cannon to go with you to this Erica chick’s house?” she demanded. “There’s no way he would just decide to go to some whorehouse. He’s in love with Piper. He’s loyal.”

“Smith dosed his beer,” my brother said so casually I nearly puked. Like dosing someone wasn’t anything serious. As if he’d seen it happen a hundred times and had done nothing to stop it.

Maybe he’d even done it himself.

No, my brain screamed. My brother wouldn’t do that. He wasn’t that kind of guy.

But maybe I didn’t know Asher as well as I’d always thought.
