“Papa.” Emerson climbed down and went to take his hand. “Grier is calling us murderers for eating bacon, and she’s going to ruin MiMi’s birthday! Tell her bacon is delicious, and eating it for breakfast, especially on your birthday, is tradition.”

“I don’t want to eat Wilbur,” Grier whispered. “Or Millie. We’re not gonna eat Millie, are we, Daddy?”

“Who the hell is Millie?” Nik asked, just as confused as I was.

“Millie is the Miniature Belted Galloway cow that Shaw and Violet bought for the girls to take care of together,” Jagger explained. “Lyric and Mila visited a few weeks back, and Ian made the mistake of saying he was going to eat Millie for dinner and…” He shrugged. “I’m sure you saw the pictures Mila posted of Ian with a black eye.”

Grier crossed her arms over her chest and lifted her chin, both proud of herself and still upset over the whole bacon—and now apparently beef—issue.

“Sweetheart, does that mean you’re a vegetarian now?” I asked as I stood, touching her leg to pull her gaze to me.

“What’s that?” she asked with an adorable frown scrunching up her brows.

“It means you don’t eat meat,” Emerson supplied before I could explain. “Do you eat eggs?”

“I only like the eggs that Henrietta lays,” she said with a stubborn tilt of her chin. “They’re fresh and taste better than the ones at the store.”

“Henrietta. Millie. Do you have an entire farm now, son?” Nik teased.

Jagger grinned. “More or less. We have a couple chickens, the cow, horses, and a few baby goats. All of which Grier and Love Bug take care of together.”

“I want a baby goat!” Emerson announced. “MiMi, can we visit Uncle Jags and see their baby goats?”

“You can help me feed them!” Grier exclaimed, wiggling free, her upset over the bacon momentarily forgotten in her excitement over sharing her animals with her cousin. “They’re so cute. Love Bug named two of them, and I named the other two. But we can get you one so you can name it. I’ll take care of it while you’re here, and you can come visit us all the time to check on it.”

Taking Emerson’s hand, she dragged her out the bedroom door. “Mommy! We have to get Emerson a baby goat!”

“Say what now?” I heard Mia shout.

Nik blew out a heavy exhale. “You know, I’m on the fence about you being all the way across the country ninety percent of the time. But that other ten percent—like now—I’m kind of glad I don’t have to deal with this kind of whiplash every day.”

“I’d take the whiplash drama anytime if we got to see our son and granddaughter every day.”

“Granddaughters,” Jagger corrected. “Shaw had a scan yesterday before we flew out. She’s having another girl.”

“Yes!” Hendrix shouted. “Still the only boy!” He high-fived me, then Nik, before skipping out of the room. “Hey, I want a baby goat too!”

“To answer your question,” Jagger said, throwing an arm around my shoulders. “Yes, both Grier and Love Bug no longer eat meat. They’re vegetarians not vegan, because they still enjoy eggs and dairy. No way my girl is going to give up ice cream.”

“Is she going to cry if we eat bacon?” Nik asked with concern. “Because I just made two huge platters.”

“Just pile extra pancakes on her plate and ignore her evil glare when you eat your bacon,” he advised with a smirk. “It’s what we’ve been doing the last few weeks. We’re teaching her boundaries. She can decide what she does and doesn’t want to eat, but she can’t dictate what we eat. Trust me, with Shaw’s cravings this pregnancy, it’s been a battle I’ve had to fight almost every day between those two.”

“She’s more like Shaw than you,” I agreed. “But maybe this one will be more of an Armstrong than a Cage.”

“I wouldn’t bet on it,” he said with a shrug. “Sorry, Ma, but Dallas and Axton’s DNA is stronger when it comes to my kids.”

“Gods help us,” I teased. “Another mini Shaw running around will end us all.”

Jagger threw back his head, laughing happily, making my heart squeeze with love. “Sounds like perfection to me.”
