He lifted his hands in a sign of surrender as he lost the fight to contain his grin. “I consider myself well warned, baby. And while we are on this very important subject, you should be aware that if anyone arranges such a party for you, and I find out there was a naked man even in the same building with you, I’ll bury the motherfucker in the same hole I put David in.”

I jolted at the reminder of the previous head of security from the summer tour. “Jarrett, you know I dislike it when you tease about having killed David.”

“It’s cute you think I’m teasing.”

“Jarrett!” I shouted, only for someone to knock on our bedroom door.

Without waiting for a reply, the door opened, and Banks stuck his head inside the room. “What do I wear to play golf with PopPop and Poppy today? Maddie said I can’t wear basketball shorts.”

Shooting Jarrett one last annoyed glare, I crossed to the door. “A polo and shorts are fine. Have you eaten breakfast yet?”

“Mrs. Hoffman made oatmeal. I don’t like playing golf, Mom. It’s boring, and Dad cheats.”

I snorted out a laugh. “So do your PopPop and Poppy. I’m sure watching them will be far more amusing than actually playing the game. Evan will be there to keep you company, and Cannon, Jagger, and the twins will be there too.”

His eyes widened. “The twins? As in Lyric and…” He lowered his voice in awe. “Luca?”

Grinning, I nodded. “Yes. He had a Thursday night game this week and Tennessee has a bye week next weekend, so he and Violet arrived yesterday.”

“Holy crap,” he whispered. “I’m going to play golf with Luca Thornton.”

I laughed then grimaced. “Please don’t get into trouble with the twins. Apart, they aren’t so bad, but together, they should come with a warning label. I’ve suggested to Vi and Mila more than once to slap a sticker on their backs that reads ‘Caution: Chaos will ensue when these two entities are in the same room.’”

“I’m sure it won’t be that bad,” Banks said to reassure me.

“Remember you said that now, bud. By tonight, you’ll see what I’m talking about.”

Chapter 6

Jarrett

The venue for Trinity’s bridal shower was the country club where Devlin Cutter and Jesse Thornton like to play golf most weekends. I drove the four of us to the club, where a good hundred people were already waiting for us, with more expected to arrive.

No sooner did I stop in front of the clubhouse than a valet was ready to take my keys. Banks and Madalyn jumped out and migrated to their friends or soon-to-be grandparents. I sat behind the wheel, ignoring the kid waiting for me to turn my vehicle over to his care.

Trinity hesitated with her hand on the door. “Is something wrong?”

“A week from today, you’ll be my wife.” I inhaled slowly as that realization hit me, and I swallowed around the knot of emotion threatening to choke me. “My kids are happy. I’ve never seen them so carefree and laughing this much. My world shifted the day I met you, Trinity. Maybe it was a hard road to get to this point, but I’m thankful for you every moment.” Grasping the back of her head, I pulled her in for a long, lingering kiss, needing to show her how much I loved her.

The door behind her opened, and I heard deep laughter. “No sucking face, Trin. You can play Daddy and his little girl later.”

Huffing, Trinity slowly pulled away. “Remember how I warned Banks about the twins earlier?” I nodded, not giving a fuck about the identical laughing hyenas behind her.

All I could see was her, the way her lips had swollen from our kiss, how she kept licking the puffy bottom one and made a little sound in her throat every time, as if she tasted me there and enjoyed it over and over again.

“Well, you’re about to get a crash course in all things Lyric and Luca. May the odds be ever in your favor, babe.”

She patted me on the chest with both hands, but instead of pulling away, she trailed her fingers up and around my neck as she leaned in for another kiss. When she pulled back, she was breathing heavier.

“Good luck.”

The words had barely left her mouth before the leaner one of the two identical idiots who were waiting at the door reached in and grabbed her around the waist, snatching her out of my arms. “Lyric!” she squealed, kicking her feet. “Put me down!”

I quickly got out of the car, tossing the keys to the valet without looking to see if the kid even caught them. I was around the car and ready to extract Trinity from the inked-up swirly-brown-eyed asshole who had his hands on what was mine. The thicker-muscled twin, the one who played pro football, stepped into my path, and I tensed, ready to take him down to get to my woman.

“Daddy!” an adorable little voice squealed as a blond-haired little girl ran up to the Hulk look-alike.

Luca bent and gently lifted the little girl into his arms. “There’s my princess,” he said as he smacked kisses all over her face, making her giggles fill the air.
