Shaw flopped down beside me, her own jersey much smaller than mine and tied in a knot to show off the itty-bitty baby bump she sported. I glared at how cute her proof of pregnancy was compared to mine. She was a week or so ahead of me, but I already looked like I was months further into my pregnancy than she did.

“I hate you,” I whined.

“So you keep telling me,” she said, used to my complaining. “I can’t help it that your man has super sperm and knocked you up with two at once. If you don’t want it to happen again, you need to get him fixed.”

“He’s not a dog, Shaw. I’m not going to get him fixed.”

“He’s a man, which is only a step away from a dog. Actually, dogs might be better. Get his balls snipped, or you’re going to be doing this again and again and again.” She waggled her brows at me. “Do you really want to risk having multiple sets of twins?”

“Shut up.”

“It’s a legit question.”

Huffing, I glared out the window. “I haven’t made up my mind yet.”

“I think I want to try one more time for a boy,” she said thoughtfully. “I mean, this pregnancy hasn’t been nearly as bad as Grier was, and I really want a boy.”

“What does Jagger say?”

“That he’ll give me as many kids as I want. But three would be my max. Especially if they all turn out to be girls. Grier is already a handful, and the chances of this one being just as bad are high. I mean, hello, look at who their grandmothers are.”

I spotted Aunt Emmie on her phone across the room. She was texting away, working even now. The halftime show was going to be huge, and she was making sure it went off without any last-minute surprises. Meanwhile, Aunt Dallas was standing with my mom, her arm around Uncle Linc’s waist since he’d just arrived. Snorting, I turned my gaze back to my bestie. “Yeah, their grandmothers. Their personalities have nothing to do with their hotheaded mom.”

Shaw stuck out her tongue at me. “Bite me. It totally has everything to do with Mom and Emmie. It’s a combustible combination. Jags and I didn’t stand a chance when our DNA mixed and created Grier, and we’re even more likely to go down fighting with this one.”

She stroked her hand lovingly over her extended abdomen.

“Here, Vi,” Dad said as he shoved a plate overloaded with food into my hands. “Be right back with your drink. Shaw, what can I get you?”

“Dad, you don’t have to wait on us…” I trailed off because he had already walked away after Shaw asked for lemon-lime soda. “Why did I spend so much money on catering staff if he’s just going to be waiting on me?”

“Shush, it’s adorable. He’s not able to spoil you often. Honestly, I’m surprised he and Aunt Harper haven’t bought a house in West Bridge. I thought they would as soon as Mason graduated high school and started college.”

“He has been working hard on growing ASM with Aunt Emmie. He’s so proud of the production company they started together.”

“Yeah, but he could do that from Nashville.”

“True, but Aunt Emmie is in California, and so is Uncle Drake. I’m not saying that I’m not as important to him as they are, but they are…home?”

Her blue eyes filled with understanding. “I didn’t look at it that way. But you’re right. Aunt Emmie is like a sister to him, and Uncle Drake has been at his side for as long as I can remember. They’re closer than any brothers I’ve ever met, and that includes Lyric and Luca.”

“Exactly.” I felt a kick to my bladder and groaned. “This is going to be a long night.”

She made a sympathetic noise in her throat and stole a potato skin off my plate. “Poor thing. Here, let me help you ease the weight of that plate.”

Shoving the dish into her hands, I carefully got to my feet. “Take it all. I have to go pee before I piss myself.”

“Better hurry. They’ll be taking the field soon, and if Luca doesn’t see you, he’s going to be in his head too much throughout the game.”

“I’ll hurry, but I can’t wait.”

“Sucks to be you.” She stuffed another appetizer into her mouth.

“Wait until you’re nine months pregnant and pee a tiny bit every time you take a step.”

“I do Kegels to keep that from happening.”

“I really hate you.”
