He’d been playful and cute when I’d been little. There was always a gruffness to him, and Daddy had said their friends teased Gaylen about being the grumpy character in a romance novel, but he was sweet. Now I wanted to see the spicy side of my new Dom.

“Alright then. What would you like to know, kitten?” Shifting, he rested one knee on the ground and cupped my cheek, not seeming worried in the slightest even though, based on our history so far, he probably should be.

“Would you help me get ready to be your grown-up date now?” I tried to sound confident but I licked my lips nervously. “I know we’re not going to rush but… but I want to…”

Shoot.

“I don’t know what to say next.” That was stupid to admit but I didn’t want him to think I was hiding anything.

Gaylen chuckled but he tempered that with another kiss, this time on my lips. “I would be glad to help you, kitten.”

Taking my hand and the bag, he stood up and helped me to rise. “Finish texting Ender, then go give your Daddy a kiss and tell him we’ll be right back.”

“Yes, Sir.” I took a chance and kissed his cheek before I quickly sent Ender a message that everything was going great and they would take me home later. Then I hurried around the couch to where Daddy was trying not to smile.

I was brave and gave him a quick kiss on the lips. “I’ll be right back, Daddy.”

He reached up and ran his hand over my head as I straightened. “I’ll go see what the grumpy Dom over there thinks will make a good dinner.”

“Touch my veggies and die.” Gaylen’s gruff order made Daddy snicker.

“You have your fun and I’ll have mine.” Daddy’s cheeky response had me trying not to giggle as I hurried back over to Gaylen. I wasn’t going to get between them when they were poking at each other like this… especially when I wanted to be the one being poked.

But I was going to be patient.

And I was going to communicate with my dates and the Doms I was interested in getting to know better.

And I was not going to be pushy when Gaylen changed my clothes and hopefully helped me feel more like his sub… not just the cute little he played with.

God, that list seemed to be getting longer and longer the more I thought about it.

Gaylen helped me chase the random thoughts away, though. Just the way he reached out and took my hand with ease helped set the right tone and cleared my head… and hopefully also set the tone for what was to come.

The sweet man who’d turned into the confident Dom gave Daddy a nod and squeezed my hand. “Come on, kitten. There’s a guest room back here we can use until we figure out where we should put your playroom or nursery.”

I tried not to react too much as he walked me deeper into the house, but Gaylen must’ve heard my squeak because his smile widened. “Don’t let your Daddy see how excited you are about that or he’s going to be hiring painters before I can remind him that we are not rushing.”

Before I could agree to that, because he wasn’t wrong, Daddy called out to us. “I don’t even know what color she wants. I can’t hire anyone yet.”

“Yellow, Daddy.” I couldn’t help myself and I laughed, giving a little shrug as Gaylen groaned. “Sorry.”

He seemed to be doing his best not to roll his eyes like a dramatic teenager. “You had to encourage him.”

“It felt like a question.” I gestured helplessly. “It would be rude not to answer.”

Shaking his head, he led me into a small bedroom that would be perfect for a nursery. It had two big windows that faced the back of the yard and there was enough privacy that I didn’t have to worry about anyone seeing me little.

I knew a lot of people who loved these old neighborhoods just for the privacy alone. All the new stuff was built right on top of one another. So yeah, I’d take boxy rooms with privacy any day.

“What are you thinking, kitten?” Gaylen’s question stopped my mental wandering as he set the bag down on the bed.

“That I like your house, mostly.” As he pulled out my grown-up clothes and put them on the bed, I tossed my phone back into my diaper bag and looked around the room. “And I was thinking about the amount of privacy you have and that the older neighborhoods are much nicer than the newer ones.”

He chuckled and nodded as he sorted through my stuff. “Harper and I both agree with you on that. I was looking for something bigger to buy when we first started shifting from knowing each other to dating and he said that one of his limits would be me buying something stupid.”

I could see Daddy saying that very sincerely.

“I take it you didn’t buy anything stupid?” My cheeky response had him glaring at me but I could see the barely suppressed laughter in his eyes.
