“You don’t have to be a part of it—” he started to say, but I cut him off.

“He tried to kill me,” I said firmly. “I want to be there when you confront him.”

Elijah looked at me pityingly, his eyes shadowing.

“I’m not going to confront him, Abby. I’m going to kill him. Do you think you can handle that?”

Drawing in a shaky breath, I nodded.

“I’m in,” I agreed.

* * *

I didn’t thinkI would sleep after learning about my immortality, but lying in the safety of Elijah’s arms, I was lulled back into slumber, not to wake again until I heard several unfamiliar voices in the suite.

Opening my eyes, I realized that my mate wasn’t in bed with me any longer, and I slipped off the mattress to pad out toward the living room in a terrycloth robe.

The entire common area was filled, and I gasped aloud when I recognized the familiar faces among them.

Lora met my eyes from across the room, guilt flooding her irises, but I nodded approvingly as Elijah joined my side, slipping an arm around my waist.

The other members of the Verity Gang who had shifted alliances avoided my eyes altogether, as if they were worried I was some kind of double agent.

“We’re all here for the same reason,” Elijah told the crowd, picking up where his speech had left off before I had entered. “Everyone here is disgusted with the way Orson has run things in Pario City. Some of you have lost female relatives or friends to his trafficking ring.”

A low murmur swept through the unit as I eyed the unfamiliar men.

Ash’s implants,I recognized, noting their similar stances to Silver, Draven, and Jake. Between Ash’s guards and Orson’s defectors, we had the semblance of an army.

“We leave in an hour,” Elijah concluded. “Get hydrated; warm up. I assume he’ll be hiding and protected.”

“He’s at the warehouse,” Draven informed us in his bland, even way. “We have eyes on him.”

I tensed and looked at Elijah worriedly.

“Is Etta with him?” I asked, scared for my friend.

Elijah glanced at Draven, who shook his head.

“She was, but she’s left the area. No one is following her.”

“Then we need to move now,” I said urgently. “Before Etta gets back.”

I didn’t want her caught in the crossfire. She had nothing to do with any of this, and if something happened to her...

Elijah read the apprehension on my face and nodded.

“She’s right,” he agreed. “We’re not going to allow Orson to hurt any more women. Get ready to move out now.”

Gratefully, I hugged him and fell back.

“Go,” I breathed, backing up. “I’ll get my things and meet you there.”

Elijah reached out to grab my arm. “Are you sure you want to do this?” he asked. “You can still stay. It’s not too late to change your mind.”

I shook my head vehemently. “No,” I said firmly. “Let’s bury this bastard the way he tried to bury you.”

Elijah’s brow furrowed, but he offered me a taut smile.
