Soren leaned over my shoulder.

“I can’t work with you leaning over me. Get me all the frozen stuff from the fridge. Now.”

Soren, my damn alpha, did as I asked. He opened the fridge and returned with bags of frozen French fries and fish fingers.

“Will, please try to stay calm. You can talk to me, but we need to bring your fever down.”

One of the twins arrived with the IV set.

“Thanks.”

In their eyes, one could read how much they worried about their friend and pack mate, but I refused to allow fear to fuck me up. Think Yana. Poison. It’s in his system. He burns everything fast because he’s a wolf. But still, we need to flush it from his system.

“Will, I’m going to poke you. You need to keep the arm still.”

“Uhuh.” He passed out.

“One of you, I need you to hold his arm. Make sure he doesn’t get the needle out.”

Getting the IV in was easy. His veins were thick like damn pipes. I got the IV running and Gunnar held the bag.

“Are you guys okay? Anyone else badly hurt?”

I threw a look at the wolves who filled my kitchen. I barely had space to breathe. After taking vinegar from a cabinet and filling a bowl with water, I dripped some vinegar into the bowl. Vinegar should neutralize things. Using the clean towels, I soaked them in the water and wrung them over the sink.

“Guys, I need you to hold Will down. This will hurt like hell.”

Soren took Will’s right arm and signaled Gunter and Torin to push on his legs. I laid the vinegar and water-soaked towel on top of his sliced chest. Will shook and roared. Pain exploded from his open eyes. He tried to stand up.

“Will, I need you to stay calm. This is going to help.”

I hoped it was going to help. The last thing I needed was to show the patient that I did not have the slightest idea what I was doing.

“One more big area, okay?”

“Pup, don’t move.” Soren used every bit of alpha in the command. It made me shake.

No. I can’t get all soft and gooey around him. He lied to me. He treated me like a silly girl who could not make her own decisions. No, no.

Biting on the inside of my cheek, I braced myself and put another towel on Will’s sliced abs. It looked as if someone tried to kill him with thousands of cuts to make him bleed out. The IV kept running. I took one of the smaller towels and cleaned the wounds on his legs.

“Is it working?” Torin asked.

Before I could snap at him, I recalled that this was his brother, his pack brother, and that he had every right to ask me.

“I can’t tell yet.”

I wished I could have learned something about wolf physiology, but I knew nothing of that. All I knew was that if what I was doing was working, he’d start to feel better soon.

“Let Yana work,” Soren commanded. “She’s doing her best.”

“It’s okay. I’m doing this by trial and error.”

“I trust you, Yana.” Soren looked into my eyes.

My heart soared with my crazy love for him. “I’m trying.”

As I spoke, I noticed the minor wounds on his arms started to close.
