"Go on," Charlie encouraged, and I sneaked a look at my soul pair. He was looking emptily at his lap, staring at his thumb as it glided over the back of my hand in slow, gentle strokes.
I took a fortifying breath and said, "He's powerful but modest. He’s distant because I don’t think many people have treated him kindly. He’s … I think he’s lonely."
"You are thinking of us all being together." Zaide narrowed his eyes.
"No! Not like that. Not like we are.” I circled my finger to reference the bond between us, soul, spirit, and heart, and then continued, “But we will have to work together. He has to teach us, and it would be good for us all to get along while we do that. He’s very knowledgeable about the otherworlds. That could be helpful."
Zaide’s lips pressed into a thin line. "I have been traveling through otherworlds looking for my family. I know about the otherworlds."
"Zaide." Charlie looked amused by his pouting. “We all know you wouldn’t have been able to leave a realm without Savida visiting each shopping center, so you probably haven’t traveled as much as the son of gods.” A small smile appeared in his eyes, and Charlie continued. “But if you want, you can compare cocks when you meet. For now, can you tell your soul pair that you forgive her? I’m suffocating on her emotions right now.”
He hesitated, and my heart seemed to slow down so I could focus on the silence between its loud thuds. “I've been wishing for you my entire life. I hoped for you in my darkest moments. I was going to search the human realm to find you, even if you were a wrinkled old lady." My lip trembled. "I can forgive anything."
I sagged with relief; my head bowed in his lap as I whispered hoarsely, "Thank you."
Stroking my face and tilting it up so I looked at him, he bent low and kissed my forehead. As he pulled away, I gave him a tremulous smile, rubbed my eyes, and asked, “What happens now?”
Charlie slapped his thighs. "I'll tell you what happens now. When we meet Baelen, we punch him in the balls for making a move on our girl. Then we ask him how we use our powers. Then we fight crime across the galaxy like the badasses we were born to be."
I huffed a small laugh. "I meant about us, Charlie."
"I can't help you there, Clawdicat. But if you were trying to apologize to me, a blow job would be a good place to start."
"Charlie!" I felt a blush rise on my cheeks at the very thought.
"You'll have to remember that for later if it’s ever needed. Since you love me and all that," he teased, and I was relieved that although we hadn’t had a private conversation about our relationship, he accepted my feelings.
We were all quiet for a moment as we came down from the emotional rollercoaster of the morning.
Charlie interrupted it. “Are you two going to get dressed? Because I honestly can’t pretend that you aren’t stark bollock naked anymore.”
I stifled a giggle and jumped when Zaide’s arms and legs opened and pulled me into his arms. “Don’t look at my soul pair,” he muttered into my shoulder. And I sighed in relief.
I didn’t think I was totally forgiven, but it was a good start. I snuggled in and wrapped my arms around him. I nuzzled into his neck and kissed it. A certain male part began to come alive between us.
Charlie laughed awkwardly. “I’m still here. I didn’t come here for a show. I think I missed that last night.” I cringed.
“Charlie,” Zaide admonished.
I pulled out from our embrace and looked Zaide in the eyes. “I am so sorry,” I whispered earnestly.
“I know, Little Cat.”
“I love you.”
“And I love you. But I am angry at the situation. Give me time.”
I bit my lip and nodded. He took my face in his large hands and pecked a kiss on my lips.
We all jumped when the door slammed open and Savida strode in. “If you are all done with screaming and crying, there is something you should see.”
CHAPTER14
ZAIDE
We all moved at once. I threw on trousers with the practiced hands of someone who had to be ready at a moment's notice while Clawdia struggled into her clothes as if she’d never been a human before and Charlie hurried out of the room behind Savida.
“What? What happened?” Charlie asked and came to a halt when Savida’s wings moved out of the way to reveal the urgent situation.
