The one I must keep.

She’s shivering, though it’s not cold. I want to scoop her into my arms and carry her back to the chopper, but I’m not sure how she’d react to that. Lord only knows what she’s been through, and I don’t aim to add more trauma.

Once we get back to the Keep, Christine will check her over, and we’ll get to know each other. There might be an adjustment period, but it’ll settle as soon as she realizes how safe she is, and that I’d never harm her.

And judging by the men we took down at the club, I’d say I’m definitely an upgrade in the looks department from what she’s used to. To add to my charm, when she realizes how enthusiastic I am to satisfy her, she’ll be more than happy to be Kept.

Her arms are wrapped around her barely dressed body, only moving when she tucks a stray strand of blonde hair behind her ear. My protective urges go into overdrive. I don’t like that the others can see her like this, but it’s not like I can offer her my coat.

I exhale a long breath and remind myself that she’ll never have to go through another hardship again. Her life will be smooth sailing from here on out.

I still can’t believe that I’ve found her. And that she’s so perfect. Despite how she’s dressed, her face is free of makeup, allowing me to see her scattered freckles.

Shit…she’s young. Christine will have to make sure she’s over eighteen. If she’s not, there are other women out there.

She gasps adorably. “You guys have a helicopter?”

“Several, but that’s not all,” I say, excited to speak with her. “We have a safe place for you to stay with all the food you could hope for.”

“But my father said everything was dead…that civilization was gone.”

Rage twists my mind as I think of her father keeping her in a place like that club.

“Don’t worry. There’s a lot more going on than what’s out on the streets.”

After getting the girls safely fastened in, we lift off and continue to the Keep.

Dane keeps looking back at Britney, which sets me on edge.

“She’s mine, and you know it. I got to her first, so I get to claim her.”

Dane glares at me. “It’s not fair that Alistair gets her all because he was standing on the right side of the room.”

“Rules are rules,” Cole mutters, rolling his eyes.

I look over at Britney and see that she’s confused. I wish I could talk to her, but maybe it’s better that she speaks with Brooke.

We touch down and the girls are taken for in-processing as we meet to discuss the current situation around the War Room Table, but I can barely pay attention. All I can think about isher.

Again, Cole reiterates that Britney is mine, which rubs Dane the wrong way, not that I give a fuck.

Rules are rules.

The meeting is dismissed, and Gabriel and I make our way to the girls.

“Hey, wait for me!” Eva squeals. “I love new people.”

“I like your new hair,” I say, admiring the vibrant shade of green.

“Ah, it’s not new.”

We enter the room where the girls are being kept, and because she can’t contain herself, Eva practically shouts, “There you are!”

The girls look at Eva with lifted brows.

“Hi! My name is Eva. I would have been here sooner, but I had a bunch of kids to entertain.”

“And what circle of hell are you located in?” Britney asks, and I can’t help but smile.
