Nate woke meup at the crack of dawn for his morning walk. I started to move when I realized there was a chiseled arm around my waist. His fingers were splayed wide across my belly, and the sight of it had my heart melting. I’d known Zeke all of three days, and already I didn’t want to think about him leaving this morning. I’d never been so gaga over a guy before.

His voice was deep and raspy. “Going somewhere?”

I chuckled. “Nate needs a walk.”

Zeke pressed a kiss to my shoulder and lifted his arm. “Mind if I take a shower?”

“Go right ahead.” I got up and headed for my dresser. My legs still felt a little wobbly today. I’d lost count of how many orgasms I’d had last night, but damn…I could get used to that.

I ducked into the bathroom and brushed my hair and teeth before heading downstairs. I looked back at the handsome werewolf in my bed and grinned. “I’ll be right back.”

He sat up, his abs contracting into his well-defined six-pack. I resisted fanning myself. Barely.

His green eyes locked on me. “What’s the weather look like out there?”

I peered through the drapes and back over at him. “Foggy, but it doesn’t look like rain.”

“No snow?”

His question made me realize where his train of thought was headed. “It’s April.” I shook my head. “It’s too early for my vision to happen. You were a wolf in it, too, so it had to be during a full moon in the winter.”

“True.” He ran a hand down his face. “But maybe that’s how they caught the wolf.” His gaze met mine. “They could’ve had you already.”

Like bait. A chill shot down my spine. I hadn’t thought of that. “I’ll be careful.” I bent down to scoop Nate into my arms. “But there was snow in the vision so I think we have some time.”

He put his feet on the floor, and the sheet bunched up around his waist. “I’m not going to be able to rest until I’m sure we’ve neutralized that vision.”

“We need to get through the new moon ceremonies first.” I patted Nate’s head, taking comfort in the normalcy of walking my dog. “I’ll be fine. We can talk when I get back.”

“Okay.” He nodded. “If anything happened to you…”

“It’s daylight, and I’ve got magic, remember?” I whispered a short incantation, and the water turned on in the shower. His head snapped toward the noise and back to me. I grinned. “Enjoy your shower. I’ll be fine.”

I left before he could bring up any other concerns. My anxiety was already kicking into high gear without his ominous warnings. This was my neighborhood, and I knew everyone on this block. No one could abduct me around here without someone seeing something.

I slipped Nate’s little legs into his doggie parka and hooked on his leash. The cold air stung my cheeks as soon as we left the house. If I hadn’t been fully awake before, I was now. Damn. Nate barked at the birds sitting on the fence, and I swore his little chest puffed out as they flew away.

He did his business quickly, and we headed back to the house. As we went up the porch steps, my cell rang in my pocket. Once we were inside, I took it out and pressedAccept.“Hi, Lillian. How are you feeling?”

“There you are.” She sounded concerned. “Are you all right?”

“Yeah.” I turned the dead bolt, my eyebrows pinching together. “You’re the one who just got out of the hospital.”

“You didn’t answer your phone. I even sent a text.”

Oh shit. NowIwas worried. “Are you okay? Do you need me to come over?”

Her tone softened. “I’m feeling much better. I was trying to schedule a time for us to meet up and plan the ceremony. Now that we know it’ll take place during the new moon, we have to make a list and be sure we get all the items we need for the ritual.”

It took me a second to remember what day it was, and as soon as I did, I realized I was running the store today. “I’ve got to open the Crow’s Nest, but I could come by after work.”

“Or I could get sandwiches from Red’s and bring them to the store for lunch.”

My stomach growled, clearly a fan of her plan. “You’re supposed to be resting.”

“I’m fine, Ruby. It was the magic that depleted me, not a failing heart.”

I rolled my eyes. “You’re a terrible patient.”
