I hear a click at the door.

I take a deep breath. About to launch.

The door bursts open!

ZAP!

My entire body jolts and I crumple to the floorboard.

They shot a taser at me!

It pierces my shirt and my body stiffens.

The men laugh. One comes up to me, a cloth in his hand. “You won’t feel a thing, pretty boy…” he says as he covers my mouth while I writhe in pain. My eyes widen as I realize what’s on the cloth, I try to move…

But the entire world…turns black…

A snap pulls my attention to the present and my head abruptly rises, my eyes wide.

My mother’s face, smug and amused, was inches from mine.

“You’re too into theatrics!” I scream, angrily, spit flying from my lips. “You should produce Pippin! For Christ’s Sake!”

She laughs and stands up straight. I’m sitting on a chair.

“What’s that smell…?” I ask, pure repugnance to the scent accosting my senses.

“We’re in a fish market…”

I look around. Plastic drapes are all around us. “Plan on cutting me up and selling me?”

She raises a brow. “Should I?”

“What happened to the newspaper warehouse?”

“What happened to minding your own business?” she asks.

I shrug. “Just seems like you’re going down a few notches… You have the warehouse in Detroit, and you had one in Chicago. Why change?”

“Again…” she repeats, venom dripping from her voice. “Mind your own business.”

“You could have called…” I stand up. The big apes that took me are standing behind her.

“Tried,” Madam Rosa growls.”You didn’t answer.”

I smirk. She can’t stand it when it’s not on her terms. “What?” I ask. “You call like once and I silence you?”

“What’s taking you so long to do the assignment?” She demands.

“You want this job done ugly?” I shoot. “You chose me to do it because I’m the best and I’ll get it done, but don’t interrupt me to bitch and moan like I’m one of your lackeys.”

Most people quake in their boots when it comes to Madam Rosa. But I’m not one of them. My mother doesn’t scare me at all.

She’s always been stern and direct.

But as far as I’m concerned, I’m the Alpha and the Omega. Not her.

She might be scary to everyone else, but to me, she’s mom.
