“They don’t work for people who kill people in the family…” Aria slings back the last drop of her drink. “Bunch of pansies.”

I know what she’s referring to. The rumors spread like wildfire from all her guys.

She killed her husband, Edoardo.

All the stories had that part in common.

What all of them failed to mention, though, was how she did it…

It’s strange, though… this feeling I’m having. I’m trying to force it down, but it keeps floating back up to the surface.

She’s stubborn.

Beautiful.

I can’t pretend like she’s not.

Her eyes flash in the light and it draws me back to the surface. Her cheeks blush pink as I watch her, mesmerized. It’s crazy how someone so ruthless can also be so…beautiful…?

The color spreads across her cheeks and deepens as she dips her head toward the glass again.

There’s a fierce pang of affection bubbling in my gut. She seems pretty trustworthy. Why? How? The black widow of Chicago?

It was almost … easy to fall for her.

The cute flush of her ears forced me to look away.

Her irises flash with a touch of embarrassment. “Why are you looking at me like that?” She asks, her voice the soberest it’s been all night.

Her lips tremble and I find myself dazing at them.

Damn. I need to say something.

“Just…you…” I admire.

My ears were hot. I’m sure I’m blushing too.

Good thing I can blame the booze.

She snorts and laughs. “Better be careful,” she warns, jokingly. “I’ll take my shirt off for you just so I won’t waste the lingerie I put on…”

My cheeks were definitely sure to flush now. I feel a heat rise up to my cheeks and I look down, my resolve weakening. “Are you blushing?” She asks, her tone switching to a flirtatious one …

“The booze.” I need to redirect this.

"Mhm," she hums, in a tone I wasn’t quite well acquainted with yet as far as she was concerned.

We seem to be skirting around something here…

There's tension between us…

It’s thick…

There’s a magnetic pull I’m feeling… and I’m not sure I can stop it.
