Just like we’d done every night since we got on this damn boat.

“Where are you going?” she asked me, dreamily.

“Stay there, I’ll be back in a few hours. I just have to deal with some shit.”

She nodded and rolled back onto her side, fast asleep in seconds. I could hear my cousin outside in the boat. I grabbed my gun and headed out to meet him.

“You ready?” he shouted up at me. I nodded and jumped down into his boat. He turned us around and headed for the bay. I hated that I was leaving Jolie alone but she would be fine out there. The city was in chaos, with both the Caldwell’s and my father wanting to lay claim to each other’s side. Now was the time for me to bring my plans to fruition and take this city from both of them.

Bennett pulled up at the wharf where Gunnar stood. “We need to hurry. My father caught on to what’s happening today.”

I nodded and followed him down the wharf toward his car. Bennett was going to stay on the boat to make sure that I got away if I needed to.

Gunnar didn’t say anything else, he sped away from the marina in a huff, thick tension hung in the air between us.

“Gun-”

“Save it,” he said. “I get why you did it, and I understand why you chose her over our friendship. I should have always trusted you.”’

“I know you did. Deep down you did otherwise you would have handed me over to your father.”

Gunnar nodded. “Yeah, I suppose you’re right.”

He pulled up outside the cafe. The cafe owner nodded at me in acknowledgement and poured me a drink. I took it gladly and headed over to where Vince and Sam sat in the booth. Gunnar got in beside me as I looked down at the plans my father had given Sam thinking he’d turned on me.

He was trying to blow up my boat in the fucking ocean. The motherfucker wanted me dead.

Not only that but he was planning on killing Jolie too.

I saw red.

Not only had he tried to run my mother from the city but he was trying to destroy his only true heir.

I hated him more than ever.

“What else can you tell me?”

“He had a secret meeting with Rose Caldwell,” Sam said with some unease. “I don’t know exactly what was said but trust me, Roman, she’s only going to cause issues between the two households.”

I sat back in the booth and downed my drink. It burned on its way down. Why the hell was Rose butting her nose in everywhere?

“Why do you say that?”

“Let’s just say the meeting was all talk,” Sam said. I knew exactly what he was trying to say and immediately I felt a disgust for the two of them. She couldn’t have me anymore so she went for daddy Moreno.

Slut.

“Great,” I said. “What could she possibly be giving him other than that to have him try and take over Caldwell?”

“Apparently Edward is flat broke,” Vince offered. “Once Marshall found that out, he was like a sniffer dog on a blood trail.”

Shit.

Things were getting heated already and we’d only been gone a week.

“Do you have everything in order to start our operation?” I asked. They all nodded. Gunnar sighed.

“I didn’t think it would ever come to this.”
