Lost in thought, he rolled his lips and nodded.

As he stripped naked, I wanted to join him in the shower and ravage him, but I knew it wasn’t the time to get all sexy.

While he showered, I went over everything in my head, and it all started to sink in—Drake was in serious trouble, and Crisp would stop at nothing to get to him.

I entered the bathroom just as he was drying himself.

“There’s only one thing we can do.”

He rubbed his head with the towel. “What?”

“We have to go. Like now.”

“But where to?”

He dropped the towel, and I had to concentrate on the gravity of the situation and not his dick, which was half-erect from the shower.

“Somewhere far, where no one can find us.”

His face creased. “We can’t just do that. I’ve got a job. I’ve got my mother, who needs me.”

“Listen, I know Crisp. He’s dangerous, and he doesn’t like to lose. The sooner he removes you as a threat, the better. He knows judges and cops and has powerful people around him. I saw that when I was working for him.”

Drake looked into my eyes, wide and unblinking, as though the shock had only just set in. “I fucked up. Didn’t I?”

I smiled sadly. That he’d risked his life for me kept circulating in my mind. Seeing him falling apart, I felt guilty for thinking like that.

“Look, it was brilliant that you filmed it, but you should have spoken to my grandmother first.” I touched his arm. “It’s happened. Can’t you see we have no other option?”

“We? He won’t hurt you,” Drake said.

“No. But I would die for you, Drake.” Tears pricked my eyes.

He looked dazed, as though I’d confessed to murder. Drake was out of his depth with me gushing undying love. I was sure all he could think of were those maniacs coming for him.

I sucked back my sudden flood of emotion because we needed a plan. Like fast. “Desperate situations call for crazy shit actions like us running away. I can take one of the SUVs in the garage. I’ve got money.” Adrenaline surged through me. “Let’s do it. Then I’ll contact Grandmother when we’re in France or somewhere far.”

“France?” His eyes widened in fear, as though I’d suggested we visit a shithole.

“Maybe Ireland. I don’t know. We just have to get away. Like now. Can’t you see that?” I was suddenly finding it hard to breathe.

As the minutes passed, my anxiety worsened. The danger was real, and we had to run.

He released a shaky breath and nodded, before burying his face in his hands. “Fuck.”

While he was cupping his face, I had my suitcase out, tossing clothes into it.

“I’ve only got these clothes.” His eyes were wide and lost. I wanted to cuddle him and offer support, but we didn’t have time. My heart raced, telling me to hurry along instead.

That was fine. I had the strength of a tiger at that moment because the energy that flowed through me was like nothing I’d ever experienced.

“Back in a minute. Ethan’s room was open the last time I looked.” I gave him a guilty smile. “I know, I’m nosey.”

I crept into the neighbouring room and, from the wardrobe, removed a hoody, sweatpants, jeans, and a pair of Nikes. In the drawers, I found briefs and T-shirts and even a beanie.

Carrying an armful of stuff, I snuck back to my room. Luckily, my grandmother’s room was down at the other end of the hall.

I dumped the stuff on my bed and placed the trainers on the ground.
