“This is Glenna Deeley. From the Auditorium Theater. Is this a good time?”

“Oh, uh, sure. Absolutely,” I say, my eyes flicking nervously up to meet Cassio’s.

“I’m happy to inform you that the theater has decided to offer you a preliminary position in our next musical. It’s a temporary probationary role that will lead to a more permanent role should we find the relationship is a right fit. If so, after the close of that show, we would bring you onto the cast full-time. What do you say?”

“Yes!” I burst excitedly, then rein myself into a more professional tone. “I would love to accept. Thank you, Ms. Deeley.”

“Wonderful. Stop by the theater tomorrow. We have some paperwork for you to sign. We look forward to working with you.”

“I look forward to the opportunity,” I say, my heart pounding furiously in my chest.

I did it. I can’t believe it.They liked me.I feel suspended somewhere between disbelief and walking on cloud nine.No onegets a job on their first major audition right out of college. At least, that’s what I’ve been told. I feel the need to pinch myself to make sure it’s real.

A squeal of excitement bursts from me as I hang up a moment later, and Cassio chuckles.

“Soooo?”

“I got an offer!” I squeak. “A temporary one for this first season. But if they like me, they’ll offer me a permanent position on the cast.”

“They’re going to love you,” Cassio reassures me. “Congratulations. That’s amazing, love.”

I can’t contain myself, rising from my chair, I round the table, and Cassio pushes his chair back, allowing me to settle on his lap. Slinging my arms around his neck, I kiss him warmly.

“Shall we take this celebration home?” he offers, his smile lighting his eyes.

“Definitely,” I agree.

Here, at this moment, my life is so full of happiness. I have everything I’ve ever dreamed of and more. A good, kind, wonderful man who loves me. A future in the career I’ve always wanted, and a family that just grew exponentially now that Cassio and I are officially engaged. In the game of life, I’d say I’ve got the winning hand.
