I’d have liked a few more moments to pull myself together, but it wasn’t possible. Luca appeared at my side, opening the door for me, and taking my hand, just as he had when I climbed in, this time helping me climb down.

“Are you okay?” he asked when I stepped down and quickly released his hand. I was comfortable enough to be with him and accept his help, but it still felt odd to touch him and I avoided it if possible.

“Yep. Fine,” I replied with a forced smile. I looked around me nervously, the bright sun shining in my eyes and sending stabbing pain through my head that I knew would turn into a headache soon. It seemed everything set off a headache just lately.

We were halfway across the car park when a sleek white sports car came from nowhere, and sped across the designated parking bays and right towards us. I heard it before I saw it, and by the time I had turned to look, my heart racing as images of the night of the twin’s party flashed through my mind, Luca had me in his arms, my feet swept from the ground. He held me tight against his front as he looked to the car, trying to anticipate where it was headed. We both breathed a sigh of relief when it squealed to a stop just a foot or two before us.

“We need to get back to the car,” Luca told me as he kept me lifted in his arms and started to step backwards, never taking his eyes off the sports car before us as he backed toward his own. I was held against him with one of his huge arms, my back to his front and my legs just dangling mid-air.

“I c-can w-walk,” I protested, my whole body shaking so hard my words sounded wobbly too.

When the driver’s side door of the sports car was thrown open, Luca adjusted his grip on me, banding one arm around my centre to hold me to him, while his other hand moved, likely to the gun at his hip. My breath caught in my chest as panic consumed me, and I watched on, already convinced one of the monsters from the cellar was going to step out of the car.

“YOU!” The shrill scream pulled me from my complete and utter panic, and my eyes snapped up as Abby elegantly climbed from the driver’s seat of the car and stood before us.

Even with nothing but rage and hatred radiating from every inch of her, she looked amazing. She was wearing a very fitted, long sleeved dress in a shade of emerald-green that perfectly complimented her colouring. It was an off the shoulder style and she had paired it with a dainty diamond pendant and a towering pair of gold stilettos. Her makeup was heavy, but perfectly applied and her blonde hair was styled into big bouncing curls. It was a great shame that such a beautiful woman was nothing but bitter and ugly on the inside.

“Bollocks!” I cursed quietly, as she started screaming at the top of her voice.

“You fucking bitch! What have you told the cops? They think I fucking ran you down!” she was pointing a finger my way as she stalked towards us and I had to fight hard not to recoil. But I refused to show weakness to this raging bitch. There were a lot of people I had cowered from in my life, but not her – not Abby. I wasn’t scared of her and I was determined to show it.

“Back off, right now!” Luca demanded in a deep, authoritative voice, but it wasn’t enough to stop the raging bull of a woman who was basically charging at us.

“Put me down,” I demanded as I wiggled to get free from Luca’s grip. Thankfully, he instantly listened and slowly dropped me down to my feet. I moved to step forward, but was immediately pushed back by Luca’s arm which appeared like a barrier, before me.

“Who’s this? Fucking four men not enough for you? Got yourself another one?” Abby sneered as she glanced to Luca, not seeming even mildly intimidated by him.

“Just t-take it down a notch, Abby,” I sighed, too tired and my head hurting way too much to deal with her hysterics. Her shrill voice was like knives stabbing at my pounding head, and more than anything I just wanted her to shut the hell up.

“Take it down? Are you fucking kidding me? I was almost arrested! Because of you, you moron! You’re not even all there! How could they believe a word out of your fucking mouth? You can barely even speak!” she spewed as she finally stopped a couple of feet before me.

“You were there th-that night Abby, and you threatened me! Of course you’re a suspect!” I growled angrily.

“You took Trent from me!”

“He’s my brother!” I raged. “I d-didn’t take him f-from you. You managed to mess that up all on y-your own.”

“I know you were fucking him! I caught you both, in your room! It’s sick!” Her screams were drawing the attention of everyone in the car park and I tried hard not to blush as a small crowd gathered near us.

“How many times d-do I have to say it? HE’S. MY. BROTHER!” I spat each word slowly, praying she would actually understand the point I was making. “Get a bloody grip, you psycho bitch! Just accept th-that Trent dumped you because he f-finally realised that.”

“You don’t know anything you ugly, fucking special needs whore!” Abby hissed as she launched herself at me like she was going to hit me. After years of being hit by a woman just as equally crazy and seething as the one before me, I instinctively recoiled and braced myself for the hit I was sure would come, except it never did.

“Enough!” Luca’s voice boomed, so loud I moved to cover my ears as the sound sent a surge of fear running through me. By the time I recovered and looked up, Luca had Abby’s hands held behind her back and had pressed her against the side of her car. She was screaming and struggling, but she had no chance against the behemoth who held her.

“Let me go!” she cried as she fought.

“Calm down and I will,” Luca told her calmly, then he turned to me and raised a questioning eyebrow. I nodded, telling him I was alright, and he nodded once, then turned back to Abby.

“I’ll call the cops!”

“No. I’m the one who will be reporting this to the cops. I’m sure they’ll be very interested in the fact you just tried to attack Blake,” Luca told her. “Now, if you don’t want to make it worse, you’ll get right into your car when I release you, and drive away from here. Am I clear?”

“Whatever! Just let me go!” she squealed. The moment Luca released her she stumbled a little, then turned to face me again.

“This isn’t over! I’m not going to let you ruin anymore of my life, you stupid slut!” When Luca stepped towards her again she shot around her car and jumped into the driver’s seat, swerving her car slightly towards him before she sped past and out of the car park.

“Fuck! Are you okay, Blake?” Luca asked as he stalked towards me, Thankfully, the small crowd we had attracted, started to disperse and I allowed myself to take the first full breath since she sped towards me.
