“Blake? You okay in there?” I heard Grey call as there was a gentle knock on the door. I had no idea why he was there. He was supposed to be home sleeping before his shift that night, but I had never been so glad to hear a voice before.

“Grey?” I whimpered tearfully. My voice was shaking as hard as my body and I hated how terrified I knew I sounded.

“Yeah, just me. Open the door for me, baby,” he said.

“J-just a minute.” I swiped the tears from my cheeks and struggled up to my feet. I felt unsteady, but I was desperate to see Grey. I just knew it wouldn’t all seem as terrifying once I was in his arms.

I unlocked the door and moved to open it, but Grey was already opening it slowly, peering around it so he wouldn’t hit me with it. As soon as I looked up into his beautiful green eyes, any resolve I had found disappeared, and a sob burst from me.

“Come here,” Grey said as he stepped into the room and pulled me into his arms. He pressed me tightly against the soft, worn t-shirt he was wearing and I took comfort in the feel of his strength all around me. “I’ve got you now. You’re okay,” he soothed as he held me and ran a hand up and down my back gently.

“It’s th-them, Grey. I…I know it’s them. They’re c-coming for me again,” I gasped between sobs.

“We don’t know that, Blake. We don’t know who hit you, but even if it is them, they will never get near you again. We’ve talked about this. You’re safe. You have Luca and all of us. We’ll protect you. We won’t let them, or anyone else take you from us, baby girl,” he assured me. And he was right, we had talked about it before. The guys, Dad, Trent, and Luca had all assured me numerous times that I was safe and protected, but when it came to those three monsters all logic left my brain and was overtaken by panic and utter terror instead.

“I…I’m sc-scared,” I admitted.

“I know, but you don’t need to be. We’ve got you.”

I knew I needed to calm down. My fear was clouding all rational thought and I was losing all control, flashbacks threatening to creep in if I didn’t take back the reins very quickly.

“Wh-what are you doing here?” I asked after taking a few deeper breaths in an attempt to calm some. I was still clinging tight to Grey, my head resting against his chest and using the sound of his steady heart to soothe me.

“I just woke up and thought I’d come over to eat lunch with you. Luca told me what happened,” he explained.

“Good timing,” I snorted unattractively.

“There’s nowhere I’d rather be,” he said as he placed a kiss on my temple. “You can’t let these fuckers get to you, baby. You can’t let them take anything else from you. That’s why Simon hired security. He didn’t want you hiding away and losing out on any more of your life. He wants you to be able to go out and start living. We all do. We just want you to be happy and safe.”

“I know. I get it and I…I’m so grateful to Dad and all of you. I just…I’m not sure I can face it now, Grey. I was supposed to go to the city with Fiona but…I d-don’t think I can.” My voice still held a tremble, as did my hands, but I was better than I had been when Grey found me. “I know that’s stupid. I’m s-sorry,” I added as heat filled my face.

“Hey, it’s not stupid and you have nothing to apologise for. If you don’t feel up to going out, then I’m sure Fiona will understand.”

“I’m so sc-scared that they’re out there somewhere, Grey,” I confessed.

“If they are, then it’s them who should be scared, baby,” he growled.

“I n-need to talk to Fiona. She’s w-waiting for me,” I told him, choosing not to think about what he had just said and the fear I felt about those monsters being anywhere near the people I loved.

“How about I go and talk to her? You want me to ask her to come in for a while? Maybe you could watch a movie together or something instead of going to the city?” he suggested.

“Yeah, okay. Thank you.”

“Let’s get you sat down with something to drink first. You’re still shaking too much. I don’t like it.” He took my hand in his and led me from the bathroom as he spoke.

“I’m alright,” I tried to assure him as we stepped out into the living room.

“I know, but just sit down and rest for a minute for me, okay? I’ll get you something to drink. Have you eaten today?” he fussed as he eased me back into the corner of the sofa.

“Breakfast. We were going to get lunch at the shopping centre,” I replied.

“Is she okay?” Luca asked as he strode into the room looking worried.

“I’m fine,” I told him.

“She’s just a bit shaken up. The shopping trip needs to be called off. Can you go and grab Fiona, tell her to come in instead? I need to grab Blake something to eat,” Grey asked, and Luca nodded before disappearing again, headed for the front door.

“I really am alright, Grey,” I sighed, hating that I was causing a fuss.
