Stepping out after shutting off the luke-warm water, I felt a little better. I’d have preferred to be in the power shower Dad had in my room at home, but beggars couldn’t be choosers. I actually laughed out loud to myself after that thought. How far I’d come! The flat I lived in alone for five years, hadn’t even had a shower. It had a half size bath that I could only fit inside because I was so bloody small. To shower each morning before work, I had an attachment that consisted of a pipe that slotted over the tap, and pushed the water up to a really pathetic shower head. I had to hold that up over my head while trying not to spray the walls around me with the pathetic trickle of water that seeped from it.How quickly you’ve forgotten, I told myself.

Wrapped up in the big towel, I was just rubbing at my wet hair with a smaller one, when the door to the bathroom was thrown open violently. A small squeak of surprise and fear slipped from me and I instantly started assessing my escape options.

“What are you doing?!” an angry voice barked, but it didn’t scare me. It soothed me, because I knew that bark well.

“Jesus bloody Christ Declan!” I gasped as I slammed a hand over my heart to try and calm it’s racing beats. “You just scared the living daylights out of me!”

“What are you doing?” he repeated as he looked me over assessingly. His eyes were dark, his face filled with so much fear I felt it in my chest. “Y-you should be asleep,” he floundered as he looked to the bed like I might magically reappear there.

“I needed to have a sh-shower and wash away the smoke smell,” I explained as I clutched the towel tighter around me, very conscious it was the only thing covering me.

“Why didn’t you wake me? You could have fallen and hit your head. You could have passed out or…or slipped. How would I know? I might not have heard you from out here.” He was talking way too fast, his thoughts spiralling.

“Declan,” I whispered as I took the two steps between us, then reached up with one hand to touch his stubble covered cheek. “I’m right here and I’m f-fine. Nothing happened. I’m safe,” I assured him.

“I can’t lose you,” he whispered so quietly I barely heard it.

“We’ve talked about this, and my answer is st-still the same. I am not going anywhere. I’m here.” I grabbed his hand and placed it just above my towel on my chest, so he could feel my steady heartbeat. “See? Right here. Not going anywhere.”

He held his hand there for several moments. His eyes staring at my face, but I wasn’t sure whether he was actually seeing me.

Worried, I whispered his name to see if he was even really there with me, but he heard and it stirred him into action. He moved his hand and slid it behind my hip, placing his other hand in the same place at the other side, then he was lifting me into his arms, pulling me tight against his chest as I wrapped my legs around him to get a better grip. Knowing he needed some comfort I slid my arms around his neck and buried my head against the space between his neck and shoulder.

“I’m sorry I’m such a grumpy dick,” he told me after a few moments. I lifted my head and grasped his cheeks in my hands, holding him in place so his eyes were on mine.

“I don’t care as long as you’re m-my grumpy dick,” I promised him.

“I don’t deserve you, Blake,” he sighed as he tried to move his eyes from mine.

“Don’t be bloody daft, Dec,” I growled.

“It’s true. I’ve done so much shit in my life…bad shit. I’ll never be good enough for you.”

“So have I,” I cried. “We did what needed to be done to survive, Declan. Some people may not understand that b-but I do…we do. That’s why we see each other s-so clearly. We’re the same. Don’t pull away from me now, please. I n-need you and I’m not scared to admit it. I need all of you.”

“Never happening,” he uttered as he leaned in and started raining kisses down on my cheeks. “I’m not good enough,” he went on, “But I can never walk away. I need you too, so fucking much. You’re mine.”

“Kiss me and prove it,” I told him, needing him in that moment more than ever before. He didn’t need asking twice as his lips slammed down heavily over mine. The kiss was wild and desperate, Dec nipping at my lips and devouring every inch of my mouth, showing me with every moment that passed that he meant what he said.

“Mine,” he growled as he pulled away, both of us breathless.

“Yes,” I panted. “I’m yours.” I moved to slam my lips over his just as he had done a moment ago, but the moment was broken by the sound of someone opening the door to the room and entering.

“Blake?” Trent’s voice rang out and I quickly released my legs from Dec’s waist, and dropped back down to my feet, straightening up the towel to ensure I was covered. “There you are,” Trent said as he appeared before the open bathroom door and looked between Dec and I questioningly. “Everything good?”

“Blake decided to take a shower without waking me,” Declan grumbled.

“Bloody grass!” I snapped, annoyed as he stomped from the bathroom. I didn’t miss the way he adjusted his crotch as soon as he was out of my brother’s eyeline.I did that, I thought to myself.I made him want more.It was a heady realisation.

“You need to take it easy for a few days, tiny,” Trent lectured.

“I’m fine. Can I g-get out of here yet?” I asked.

“Yes. That’s what I came to tell you. I have your discharge papers and some clothes Nan bought for you. You okay to get dressed or shall I grab a nurse to help?” Trent asked.

“I can manage.” I assured him as I gratefully took a floral bag I was sure belonged to Nan, from his hand and headed back into the bathroom.

“Don’t lock the door,” Declan ordered.
