When we got back to the car park of the huge home shop we’d come from, Luca started to circle outwards from it around the surrounding streets and roads, but after twenty minutes we’d searched the entire area and found no sign of Grey. Trent and I had both been attempting to call him repeatedly as we searched, but he must have turned his mobile off, since it just went straight to the voicemail every time.

Declan was searching around the area the guys knew Grey’s sister Leah had asked him to meet her the last time she had called him, and the twins were on their way from the site they’d been working at all day to meet up with us.

“Why has he turned his phone off?” I growled in frustration when I tried ringing him again and only got his damn voicemail message.

“Because he knew we’d try to stop him,” Trent sighed.

“I think he must have left this area, Trent. We’d have seen him by now if he was here,” Luca spoke up as he pulled the car over at the side of the road and turned to us. “What do you want to do?”

“You’re right. He’s not here. He must have ordered a ride share or something, which means he could be absolutely fucking anywhere by now,” Trent said as he rubbed his palms into his eyes – a sure sign of how worried he was.

“Where else should w-we look?” I asked.

“We need to go back home.”

“Trent, no! We have t-to find him!”

“We have no idea where he is, tiny. There’s no use in us just driving around the entire city searching for him. We need to go back to the house and regroup. Maybe Grey’s already back there wondering where the heck we are,” Trent told me, and as much as I hated it, I knew he was right. Driving around the huge city blindly wasn’t going to find Grey.

“Okay,” I agreed quietly. I felt physically sick at the knowledge that Grey could be laid somewhere unconscious and bleeding at that very moment. Why had he gone to meet his sister knowing he could be walking into a trap? Why hadn’t he told me, or Trent, or someone so at least he wouldn’t be walking into the situation alone? I didn’t understand it.

“He’ll be okay, short stack,” Trent soothed as he reached across the seat between us and covered my hand with his. And that was all it took to make me see clearly why Grey had done what he did. I knew for a fact if it were Trent in some terrible situation like Leah was, and he called me out of the blue asking me to meet him, nothing would stop me from going to him, no matter what he may have done in the past. No matter what I would never be able to convince myself to give up on him because he was my brother and I loved him, just as I was sure Grey loved Leah.

The car hadn’t even come to a complete stop in the driveway of the twin’s place when I had the door open and was leaping out. I could hear Luca and Trent shouting at me, but I didn’t stop to listen. I just ran, desperate to get into the house and lay eyes on Grey.

I was shouting for him as loud as I could as I ran into the living room and then on to the kitchen.

“Blake? What’s wrong? What’s happened?” Nan asked, panicked as I locked eyes with her where she stood sliding fresh baked biscuits from a baking sheet. My dad was sat at the counter working on his laptop, and he looked to me with concern as I froze in place.

“Is Grey back? Have you s-seen him?” I asked breathlessly.

“No. He’s not here. What’s going on?” Dad asked as he looked behind me to Trent and Luca as they approached.

“Leah.” Trent stepped forward and stopped beside me. “She called him and he disappeared. We wouldn’t even know where he’d gone but Blake saw the caller ID.”

“We t-tried to find him but we c-couldn’t,” I added. “He was already gone.”

“I’ll call him. Foolish boy never learns,” Nan sounded irritated, but the look on her face was one of pure fear.

“His cell’s turned off. We’ve been trying him for almost an hour already,” Trent explained. “The guys are meeting us back here and we’ll head out to search again. Any idea where to look?” Trent looked to Nan for an answer.

“No.” she sighed as she put her hands on the counter and seemed to lean forward into it, as though it were the only thing holding her up. “I have no idea where Leah hangs out nowadays. Last we heard she was dating some ruffian from a gang.

“We tried. God knows, Grey and I tried with everything we could to get her the help she needed, but she just…she never recovered from losing Hannah and Luke. I did everything I could when they came to live with me, but she just slipped away from us.”

“We know, Nan. It wasn’t your fault,” Trent quickly said as he rounded the counter and pulled Nan into his arms. I could hear a few small sniffles as it became obvious Nan was crying.

“Leah was in the car the day of the accident that killed Grey’s parents. They were driving her to meet a friend at a concert. She blames herself for their deaths,” Dad quickly explained to me, keeping his voice lowered.

“She’s older than Grey?”

“Yes, by six years.”

“We need to find Grey,” Nan said as she pulled back from Trent’s hug and looked to Dad and I. “He almost ended up in the hospital last time he went to meet up with her.”

“Luca,” Dad looked around me. “I know it’s not why you’re here, but is there anything you can do?”

“We could try to trace his phone, but I’m not sure it would work if it’s turned off. I’ll talk to Forest. Dell and Lewis are outside keeping an eye on things,” Luca explained, then he turned and strode off toward the bedroom Forest, his partner was working and sleeping in.
