“Good morning, Jane.” A male voice replied this time, startling Jane and Natasha.

It seemed like another person was in charge of the office line today, thought the duo.

“I called to tell the company that I won’t be accepting the job offer,” stated Jane.

After a few minutes of silence, he gave a little cough and asked, “Your reasons?”

“I know I did not submit my CV or go for an interview in your company. My documents got missing for a day. I think it’s related to this. I don’t know who is behind this, so I won’t be accepting it.”

The man wanted to reply, but it seems Jane wasn’t done talking.

“I have a phobia of accepting free things. I like to work myself to success instead of getting into a shortcut.” She rounded up her speech, giving several nods as if the receptor could see her action.

“Alright, thank you for being honest with us. We will revoke the job offer, but we hope that you come to the company yourself for an interview. The space is still open for you.”

“That won’t be needed, sir. I don’t want to make a promise that I can’t fulfill,” she said after giving an ungraceful laugh.

“Okay then, have a great day, Ms. Jane Frank,” the voice said.

“You too,” she replied, and the call went off with a beep.

Looking at her friend, whose expression was hard to read, she shook her head and huffed.

“What is it this time, Nat?”

“Don’t mind me.”

“No, what’s on your mind?”

“I still feel lost.”

“About the job, you mean?”

“Yes, about the job.”

“That is given, but not to worry, I’ll find a better one,” Jane cheered and encouraged.

“Let’s face the reality, Jane. What other better job can you find in a busy place like this?”

“Yeah yeah, I know that only those with connections and those who passed through a school with fame and obtained a good result can get a job here easily, but let’s look at the brighter side,” Jane said, but Natasha only shook her head at her as her lips formed a thin line.

“What now?” Jane whined.

“Forget it.”

“Now I feel like you’re less of a friend,” Jane retorted, causing Natasha to glare at her.

“What? Isn’t it true? A friend like you is supposed to stand by me,” Jane said with her chin held high.

“Then what is the use of being a friend if I can’t point out hidden errors and stop you from blindly falling into a hole?”

“Duh, you are no fun at all. I’ll be getting ready for today’s work,” Jane said and left to take her bath.

She left the house after dilly-dallying for a while, with Natasha reminding her of her quest in between.

Back to walking on the streets of the busy city with another hope of getting employed, she came to stand before the company that was owned by the man who did the unimaginable to her.

“Rejoice all you want, live a luxurious life all you want, but karma will catch up with you for sure,” she said and walked away from there as fast as she could.
