“Okay?”

“I’ll take over your position from you on the condition that I'm based in NYC.”

That alone was enough to gladden Mr. Valentino's heart.

“You still haven’t told me what’s attached to NYC that you don’t ever want to leave to live in other places.” His dad teased.

"Deal or not." He replied with a non-smiling face.

"Deal, but you'll have to sign a document; I can't trust you not to go back on your word."

“Okay.”

Chapter 18:Don’t You Remember Me?

After recalling everything that had happened, he felt disgusted by his past actions as tears continued to flow from his red and puffy eyes.

"Would you ever forgive me, Jane?" he sobbed, taking another huge gulp from the almost-empty bottle of wine.

"I promise to be bold this time around. I'll come to you and beg for your forgiveness. I'll face the consequences of my actions. I'll endure whatever it is you'll throw at me. Forgive me, Jane."

With every sentence, he drank a large amount of wine, and after the last sentence, he cried loudly before passing out on the floor.

"Aargh!" Jasper groaned as the bright light blinded his eyes, even before he could open them. How long had he been asleep?

Trying to stand up, he felt his heavy head drag him back to the floor. How much wine had he drunk? he wondered, as his eyes looked around him, only to fall on the empty bottle of expensive alcoholic wine. With widened eyes, he begged for the strength to be able to stand up; he could not even remember the last time he had drunk so heavily.

After a while of struggling, he picked up his phone and called his driver to pick him up. Driving out of Jane Stanford’s company, he remembered his words from yesterday when he was still drunk. Although he was drunk while saying those things, he planned to keep to his words.

On reaching his home, he took a hangover medicine and got ready to go out, drafting a perfect plan on how to meet Jane. Since she had already started working in his friend's company, he planned to go to the company in the guise of visiting his friend while looking for her. Once he found her, he would make sure to obstruct her way in such a way that they bumped into each other.

"Now, that's a perfect plan," he praised himself and got ready to leave the house, being careful not to overdress, as it might make her despise him even more.

On reaching Jude’s company, he was surprised to see his friend outside and about to go into the building.

"Jude!" he called for the guy to turn around and gave him a surprised look. "I'm surprised to see you here today. I thought you would drink yourself to a stupor and wouldn't be able to make it out of Jane's place today, considering the last time you drank."

"Luckily, I didn't," Jasper replied, his nervous eyes wandering around the place in the hope of catching a glimpse of Jane.

"Looking for her?" Jude asked, and Jasper nodded. "I really need to see her," he said, telling Jude about his plan.

"Alright, I'll get it arranged."

"Thanks, man."

After making a few calls, Jude turned towards Jasper and said, "You'll have to head towards the elevator on the right. That'll be her destination soon."

"Thanks, a whole lot," he said and rushed inside.

Flipping through the pages of the file, Jane was immersed in the work assigned to her and didn't notice someone coming right in front of her doing the same thing with his phone. Before she could realize that she was about to bump into the person, it was too late, and she couldn't avoid hitting him.

"Sorry, I didn't see you coming," she apologized, not bothering to look at the person in front of her as all her attention was on delivering the work assigned to her.

"Jane," she heard the person she accidentally hit call out to her, as if in doubt that she was the one, with too many unexplained emotions in his voice.

"Yes," she turned to look at him, and for a brief moment, she felt time slow down as she held his gaze for a while before abruptly turning around to continue with her unfinished journey, ignoring him completely.

"Focus and don't get distracted; this is another ploy to make you jobless," she muttered to herself as she walked towards the workers' elevator.
