"I have to present this to the manager of the technology unit to see what he thinks about it before approving it," she kept muttering about keeping her phobia at bay or avoiding the traumatic scene replaying in her head.
Jasper felt lost seeing the girl up close; she was so close to him that he didn't know what to do at that moment. Seeing her walk away, going out of his reach, he called out to her.
“Jane.”
"Jane!" he called again, but she just ignored him and kept on walking, muttering things to herself, and it pained him to know that he was the reason she turned out like this.
The distance she was creating left him feeling miserable, so he rushed towards her, grabbed her hand tightly, and led her towards the private elevator, earning gasps of shock from the workers present.
"Let me go!" she yelled, trying to remove her hand from his hold.
"Jane, please," he pleaded as she continued to struggle for her freedom.
Even after they entered the private elevator, he continued holding her hand until they arrived at the floor occupied by the CEO.
Jude knew his friend would take her there, so he didn't bother entering the building and just stayed inside his car, hoping that everything would go well.
“Did you see what just happened now?” a female employee broke the silence.
"They look like lovers who had unfinished business to settle," one shocked employee added.
“I think it looked like Miss Jane broke up with Mr. Jasper.”
"What if it's the other way round? Seeing her, I saw her facial expression. Fear and terror were dominant in her eyes."
“Do you think it was a toxic relationship?”
“Who knows?”
"I think so; Ms. Jane is a quiet type from what I've seen so far, while Mr. Jasper is cold and aloof, maybe heartless too."
“I didn’t hear you say that.”
“Me too.”
“Me too…”
"But I still envy her; she got to date one of America's youngest billionaires."
“You aren't the only one.”
Everyone on the floor allocated to the marketing department had something to say about the shocking scene they had just witnessed.
Chapter 19:Confessing to Her
Upon reaching their destination, Jane pulled her hand out of his with all her might and gave him a slap.
“How dare you?” she asked, her eyes blazing with anger. "After everything you did, you have the guts to appear before me in this manner, dragging me as if I am your pet or what?" She asked, breathing hard as if she had just finished a marathon race.
Placing his hand on the side of his face that was just hit, he looked at her with pleading eyes.
"I forgot about suing you in court after your threat; I didn't do anything contrary to what the contract said. Why do you choose to come after me now?" She asked, tears leaving her eyes like a waterfall.
Removing his hand from his cheek to show the red imprint of her fingers, he knelt down before bowing his head as he sobbed.
“What are you doing?” She was startled by his sudden actions.
"I'm sorry, Jane," he pleaded, and his shoulder shook to show that he was crying.
