Londyn stared at him, a strange expression crossing her face. She heard voices behind her and turned to see Riley, Gabi, Lena, and Doc walking toward them.

“It’s nothing, Bone. I was just curious about the security here. That’s all.”

“There she is!” called Riley. “Come with us. We’re going to have dinner and then show you your cottage.”

“Thank you for walking with me,” she said to Bone. He nodded, waving as she walked away. Doc stared at the young man, then back at the new doctor. Bone was definitely giving her a long look, but it didn’t appear to be a look of lust or desire. Maybe a hint of it, but it was more a look of being unsure. “Something you want to tell me?” he frowned.

“Not yet. Just a feeling about something,” he said, staring at her. Doc shook his head.

“Damn.”

CHAPTER THREE

Londyn truly wished the handsome man on the other side of the cafeteria would stop staring at her. He had an air of danger about him mixed with a sex appeal that was off the charts. She wasn’t completely inexperienced with men, but her limited experiences never had to contend with someone like him.

But it was the dangerous air that kept tugging at her. Not like Cisco, where she feared for her life. But something far more dangerous. She didn’t fear for her safety around him. She feared for her heart, for her very soul. He was so beautiful, and his piercing gaze was always on her.

“I’m headed to the clinic,” she said, smiling at Kelsey. Kelsey grabbed her hand, holding her at the table for a moment. Lena, Ashley, Bree, and Janie stared at the young woman.

“Londyn, honey, we’ve noticed that you’re wearing the same clothes all the time. Do you need clothing?” asked Kelsey. “It’s nothing to be ashamed of. We just want to make sure you have everything you need.”

“Oh, uh, I left my apartment in New Orleans and didn’t get to gather my things. I just need to find the time to go back and get them.” She looked nervous and jittery, and that wasn’t making any of them feel better.

“Londyn, we can send one of the guys with you if you’re scared. They’ll drive you back, and you can pick up your things. It will be fine,” said Lena.

“No, no, that’s not necessary. I don’t want to trouble anyone. I’ll go get it this afternoon.” She pulled her hand free from Kelsey, smiling at the women, and quickly walked out the door. The women stared at one another, then noticed that Bone was following her.

After the incident at AJ’s wedding, they were sure that the two of them would connect in a romantic way. But she seemed to be avoiding him even more now. Fortunately, the O’Neal men didn’t give up easily.

“Londyn? Londyn! Wait up,” he said, jogging after her.

“Oh, hi,” she said, pushing back her ponytail. “I’ve got to get to the clinic. I have patients in fifteen minutes.”

“That’s plenty of time,” he said, walking next to her. “Londyn, when are you going to talk to me? I know that you’re scared, and I know that you’re hiding something. I just want to help you and, in the process, keep you and my family safe.”

She shook her head, stopping on the path.

“You don’t give up, do you?”

“Nope,” he smirked. “Look, Londyn, I won’t deny that I think you’re beautiful and smart, and I’m more than a little attracted to you. But that’s not why I want to help you. I can feel the fear coming off your body. I can see the terrified look in your eyes any time someone mentions going into the city for something. What the fuck is there?”

“Please, I just can’t talk about it right now. I need to get into the city this afternoon and get my clothes and bring them back. Once I do that, we can talk. Okay?”

Bone stared at her, wondering if she was going to run. But somewhere deep inside, he knew she wouldn’t. She was too scared to run. She wanted to be here with them, with the people of Belle Fleur. In just a short period of time, they’d made her feel right at home. They’d also been able to read her face and see her fear more than anyone she’d ever known.

“Okay,” he nodded. “I can go with you if you’ll wait for me. Otherwise, one of the other guys could go with you. I have to work a detail this afternoon, but I’ll be back late tonight. We can have a late dinner if you like.”

“That sounds great,” she smiled, relieved that he was letting her go. She scurried down the path as he watched every wiggle, every curve moving.

“She talk to you?” asked HG, stepping up behind his brother.

“Nope. I’ve met some hard nuts to crack, but she’s about the hardest. Did we gather anything on the background checks?” asked Bone.

“Nothing. She’s from Houston. Her father died about four years ago, mother died during childbirth. No siblings, nothing.”

“Well, she said she’d talk to me tonight, so we’ll see.”

Londyn was never so happy to be inside the clinic in all her life. Mr. Tall, Dark, and Sexy wasn’t about to give up, and she was going to have to speak to him. She wanted to ask him if he would go back to her apartment with her, but it made her nervous to have him there with her. Instead, when she completed her patients for the day, she asked one of the other men.
