“Remmo.”

His expression grew thoughtful, but he said nothing.

Mare was saying something, but I didn’t hear her—I was too focused on my plan to prevent the fight.

If I could get to Teris, it would work.

It would have to work.

…unless Remmo challenged the sabertooth for the right to bond with me or something, afterward.

I wasn’t going to consider that outcome though, because I couldn’t think of any other way to stop the fight.

And the men were still circling, so I had time.

I lunged away from Ervo, shoving through the group of fae men that surrounded Teris and Remmo.

Remmo’s sharp voice cut through the ring at the same time I finally reached the front. “Don’t let my female get any closer.”

A pair of beefy arms grabbed me by the biceps, hauling me off the ground and holding me between two gigantic men.

A glance upward proved that I didn’t recognize either of them.

And since they had listened to Remmo, they were probably unseelie.

But why had they listened to Remmo?

Wasn’t he just one of the many unseelies?

“Sunny is not yours, Vuvim,” Teris growled, as he and Remmo continued circling.

Vuvim? Was that Remmo’s nickname or something?

Wasn’tRemmohis nickname?

“She belongs with the wild fae. With the females she has chosen as sisters. Withme.” Teris’s words were low and angry, and where his fingernails were, claws had cut through.

“If that were true, it would be your scent on her skin. Beneath her clothing. In her hair.” Remmo’s voice was silky and dangerous without being rough or snarly.

And yet he spoke the exact words that would ignite every ounce of possessiveness the sabertooth had ever felt for me.

Teris roared.

“Stop!” I yelled the word, and everyone’s attention swung to me.

I was still dangling off the ground, held up by two damn giants.

“Stop. No one needs to fight. I’ll do whatever I have to, to prevent the fight, okay? I don’t want anyone bleeding.”

Remmo’s gaze slid over me.

And while he was looking at me, Teris lunged.

I screamed as his claws tore through the space Remmo was—or the space Remmo had been, a second earlier.

In that breath, the basilisk had vanished.

My panicked gaze scanned the trees, looking for him. For his scales.
