“I want you,” I say, unable to stop myself from pulling her into my arms. “You. Even without this surprise pregnancy, I would still want you. I would still want to fulfill your every wish.”

Georgina holds my gaze with hers, a small tremulous smile on her face. “I have only one desire I can think of now,” she says quietly. “I would never have thought I would ever hate anyone more than I did you, but then, I can’timagine loving anyone this much as well. Enough to want to give it my all, enough to want to start a family.”

My heart sparks with joy.

“I know what you mean,” I say. I want to say more, but I’m tired of talking, of expressing my love through speech.

And so, I do the only other thing I’ve been meaning to.

I lean over and kiss her. She kisses me back, her arms wrapped around my neck. The air around me brightens, the gloom dissipates, and I know it then.

For the first time in my life, I’ve found something worth striving for.
