She stretches her arms over her head and then cuddles back on the pillow. “Yeah. I really like it too.”

She bites her bottom lip.

“What?” I frown.

“We need to talk about names.”

I’ve thought about names – or thought about talking about names with her, but I’ve been so worried it would cause a fight that I’ve avoided it.

“Do you have any ideas?” I ask.

She nods. “I want to name him after my dad.”

“John?”

“Well, not exactly. I was thinking Ian. It’s the Gaelic version of John.”

I tilt my head to the side, thinking about this.

“Your name is Irish too,” she continues.

I cut in. “Is it?”

She laughs. “Yeah. There was a St. Declan.”

“I only know about St. Patrick,” I quip.

She laughs harder. “I don’t know how Declan missed getting his own holiday.”

“Maybe he wasn’t as fun as St. Patrick.”

Maggie wrinkles up her nose and says, “Do you know anything about St. Patrick?”

“I think he brought beer to Ireland,” I say with a grin.

“Wow. You’re a real historian,” she grins back.

I chuckle and just watch her for a moment until she says, “Your name means full of goodness.”

Her words send shivers through my body. I hope she hasn’t noticed.

“I didn’t know that,” I say. “What does Ian mean?”

“God is gracious,” she says.

“That’s nice.”

“I like that it would be a nod to both his father and grandfather,” she says.

I think for a moment. It’s not lost on me that’s she’s casually mentioned me being his father without trying to murder me. She wants me to be connected to his name. I’m surprised. After a moment, I say, “It’s perfect. I love it.”

Her face lights up. “Really? You really like it?”

“Yeah. I really do.”

She smiles brightly. “Do you want to pick out the middle name since I picked the first name?”

I lean my head back on the pillow and think for a minute. I have a question I’m afraid to ask, but I need to know the answer.
