I glare at him for a moment and then sit.

“This is an abuse of your power. You can be impeached for this.”

“So impeach me,” James says.

I roll my eyes. “How did you even know I was leaving? Do you just like have a general alert on my passport or...”

“Maggie called Elizabeth crying.”

I sit up straighter. “She did?”

He just holds my gaze for a moment and then says, “Yes. She was fucking upset. Sobbing.”

“She didn’t seem upset when I was leaving this morning,” I mutter.

“You’re a real idiot, you know that?”

“Yes.”

James huffs.

Will looks back and forth between us and then says, “Why are you leaving?”

“She doesn’t want me around.”

James leans back in his chair. “You can’t possibly believe that. Why are you really leaving?”

I close my eyes and then drag my hands over my face. With my eyes still closed, I say, “I can’t be around her right now.”

I lean back and let out a frustrated groan. When I open my eyes, I’m surprised they don’t look angry with me.

“Why?” James says.

“Because it’s ripping my fucking heart out.” I look down at my hands. “I need to figure out how to get over her.”

“Why do you need to get over her?” Will asks.

“You know why.”

“I don’t,” James says.

I look up at him. “I thought you didn’t want us to be together. Isn’t this better for you?”

“No,” he says with an annoyed laugh. “Thisis not better for me.”

“You nearly murdered me when you found out we’d been hooking up.”

“Yeah and I stand by that. I don’t want you hooking up with my wife’s sister, but I’d be more than happy if you were in a relationship with her.”

I stare back at him trying to digest the words that have just hit my ears. “Really?”

Will nods. “We all would. You’d be great together.”

I knit my brows together. This was the last thing I expected them to say.

“She doesn’t want that.”

“You sure about that?” James says.
