Maggie is dancing to“Single Ladies” with Juno and Brooklyn. Eli leans over to me.

“Stop looking at Maggie like that.”

I roll my eyes. “Stop reading into things.”

He draws his lips into a thin line.

Brooklyn points to us and wiggles her finger for us to join. Eli sighs. “I guess we’re doing this.”

I set my drink down, and we join them on the dance floor. When the song ends, “Perfect” starts playing, and I grab Maggie’s hand and pull her into me.

“Is this too obvious?” she whispers.

I lean closer and say softly, “I don’t care.”

She just smiles up at me.

“It was a beautiful wedding, wasn’t it?”

I look over at James, dancing with Elizabeth. His head is resting on the top of hers, their bodies pressed together, swaying to the music. I’ve never seen him look happier.

“It’s real now, right?” I ask.

Maggie watches them for a beat and then says, “I think it always was.”

I let my hand drift down her back just an inch.

“Not too far,” she smiles up at me. I’m fighting the urge to kiss her.

She nods over to the bride and groom again. “Will that ever be you?”

I watch them for a minute. There was a time not long ago I would have saidhell nobefore she could even finish that sentence but...
