I close my eyes for a second. “Let me surprise you.”

She smiles. “How will I know what to pack?”

“Bikinis – lots of bikinis.”

Her eyebrow twitches upward.

“That fucking yellow sundress that you can’t wear a bra with.”

Her mouth quirks again.

“Anything else?” Her voice is breathy.

“Sunblock.”

“So, tropical?”

I nod.

“Tell me when and where to show up.”










Chapter Twenty-Five

Maggie

Itry to watch himout of the corner of my eye. We’ve settled onto the airplane – flying first class. I guess he always flies first class. One of these days I’m going to ask him about money. He must get money from his brothers.

He fidgets with his phone. He’s nervous. Maybe I should call it off. I’ve literally never seen him nervous about anything. He’s definitely never been nervous around me or about being with me.

I slide my hand onto his thigh, and he nearly jumps.

“Oh, sorry.” I pull back but he catches me and puts his hands over mine, resting it again on his leg.

“No, you just startled me,” he says.
