“Yeah.”

“And one of the guests asked you to make a journey in that car?”

“Yep.”

Ryan Hanrahan turned to Colt. “Yeah, I’ve heard enough, this will be a walk in the park.”

Colt smiled and nodded. “And that’s why we pay you the big bucks, Hanrahan.”

Ryan turned back to Ash. “It will be a pleasure to work with you, Ashton, start packing your bags, you’re almost halfway home.”

Home. Ash’s heart did a flip flop in his chest. Freedom. This new life at the MC. Free to express himself how he wanted to. Free to learn and grow. Free to be himself. And yet… the irony of it came crashing down, too.

He wanted the man in his cell out with him, so that Ash could express himself and learn and grow. Together. With Nix. To be himself but himself with Nix, as well. Ash dipped his head and shook it at the painful irony of life.

Colt could tell something wasn’t right.

“What’s up, Ash?” Colt asked, concern lacing his deep voice.

Ash looked up, into the chocolate eyes of the Prez. “Nix.”

Colt sighed and dropped his head, too.

“What did I tell you Ash?”

Ash bit his lip. “I know, I know, but… it’s different now, this is serious, this isn’t playing games-”

“Fuck.” Colt looked pissed off. Ash didn’t want to seem ungrateful. He knew he was putting Colt in an awkward position here. Being Ash, he plowed on anyway. He didn’t take no for an answer. He got what he wanted.

He turned to Ryan Hanrahan.

“My cellmate, he’s going to join up with the Black Coyotes, too-”

Colt raised his eyebrows. “Is he?”

“-so we need to get him out, too-”

“Woah there, it’s not a country club I’m running here, you don’t just join up like it’s a fucking direct debit membership-” Colt frowned.

“Name and charges.” Ryan pulled out his phone to tap away.

“Nix, err… David Nixon. I think it’s assault… I’m actually not sure what he is in for…”

“For fuck’s sake, Ash-”

“Colt, please, trust me on this, he’ll be a huge asset to the club, he’s brave, he’s fierce-”

“He’s got a big cock you mean-”

Ash knew it wasn’t the time or the place, but he smirked anyway. “Yeah, he had piercings-”

“Christ!”

“Jacob’s Ladder-”

“Ash, I didn’t ask for details.”

Hanrahan wisely avoided this exchange between Ash and Colt.
